A group of graduates had a fun evening at the seaside. As they are driving home, they run over a man they don't know where he came from. Deciding that he is dead, and not wanting to cause too much trouble, they dump the body into the sea.

And exactly one year later, they receive a letter... Someone knows their secret. Someone knows what they did last summer!

A youth horror movie, great not because it's very scary, but because it's one of the first of its kind. 'Scream' and 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' continued the history of 'Friday the 13th' style youth horror movies. Same youthful company, same crazy killer, same chilling screams. Today the theme continues with 'I Don't See Evil,' 'Psycho.

Friends-graduates hit a man on the road. It does not occur to them that he can still be saved, they just drown the 'corpse' in the sea. And swear to secrecy posthumously. However, this is how it happens. The drowned man resurrects and begins to take revenge on the guys after a year. There is a logical question: why did he wait a whole year? Was he licking his wounds? Or was he waiting for Julie on purpose? Apparently, she hooked him harder, because she was the first to receive the unfortunate letter.

Jennifer Love Hewitt clearly portrayed shaking in fear and demoralized little girl, the whole movie ran with huge eyes, at the bottom of which lurks terror. Very realistic. Except that Julie's friends didn't believe the threats at first. Until they ran into them themselves. Ryan Phillippe ably played the handsome, unburdened intellectual. All he wanted to do was wave his fists and threaten everyone and everything with violent reprisals. But... As it goes, so it goes. Freddie Prinz fitted harmoniously into the role of the all-round positive boy. He was not required to be supernatural, he played the charmer perfectly, which no one doubted.

Separately, I want to mention the acting of Sarah Michelle Gellar. An amazing actress, all her characters are so masterly played and 'brought to life', that it is impossible to imagine another actress in her place. The episode in Helen's sister's store is, in my opinion, the best one in the movie. The dynamics, the emotion is palpable - it's amazing!

The film is like a slice of history of the rise of American youth horror. It sounds a little pathetic, but it's worth it.
