When Rebecca left home, she thought her childhood fears were behind her. As a child, she was never sure what was real and what wasn't when the lights went out, and now her younger brother Martin is experiencing the same unexplained and terrifying events that once tested her sanity and threatened her safety. The frightening something mysteriously attached to their mother Sophie has reappeared. But this time Rebecca gets closer to unraveling the truth, and there is no longer any doubt that their lives are in danger as soon as the lights are turned out.

Director David F. Sandberg caught the attention of Hollywood producers with a short film about a light that goes out. In this modest film, which lasts only a couple of minutes, the main character was getting ready to go to sleep, but when she turned off the light, she saw a creepy silhouette in the darkness, disappearing along with the light bulb. Based on this short film, Sandberg later directed the feature-length horror film Lights Out.
The plot of the film introduces us to a girl named Rebecca, who had serious problems with her mother Sophie and eventually left her family home. As a child, Rebecca was very frightened when the lights were turned off at home in the evening, and she saw a terrifying creature in the darkness, hiding beyond the reach of light bulbs or other sources of light. And now the scariest thing is that Rebecca's younger brother also begins to see this monster.

Their mother is in no hurry to tell the children what is happening in the house. She would rather remain silent and humbly accept the situation. But the strange shadow begins to spread far beyond Sophie's home, and now Rebecca, her boyfriend, and her brother must understand what this mysterious curse is that haunts them and how exactly they can deal with it. And they don't have much time, because the monster is growing stronger before their very eyes.
David Sandberg was given the opportunity by producer James Wan to develop the plot of his story into a full-length film, and I would say that the short film has grown into a rather interesting and, most importantly, frightening film. Every time the lights go out, we encounter something terrifying that really scares us. At first, it acts slowly and gives us time to prepare for its attack, but the further we watch the film, the more rapid the monster's actions become, which is seriously disturbing and really scary.

I liked Teresa Palmer in the lead role. She has been appearing quite often in horror films lately, but her most interesting appearance in horror is in Lights Out. She plays a rebel who refuses to accept her mother's eccentricities. But at the same time, she will do everything possible to protect her brother from a nightmarish nightmare.

I consider Lights Out to be one of the most interesting and memorable horror films of the last decade. I don't deny that the film is quite simple in its concept, but you really care about what happens to the characters in this story.
