Six years ago, Amelia lost her husband one day and gave birth to a son. Samuel is now in his seventh year, but he sees monsters everywhere. One day, before going to bed, the boy asks his mother to read him a book he found about a terrible monster. From that moment on, his fears are physically embodied in the creepy Babadook.

After the tragic death of her husband, Amelia, along with her six-year-old son Samuel, moves to an old house on the outskirts in order to somehow escape from suffering. However, soon after the move, the already eccentric son begins to behave rather aggressively towards his peers, which is why the sister refuses first from Amelia and her son, and then the school to which the child went. The mother begins to suspect that the mysterious book that Sam loves to read at night is to blame for all the troubles.

Jennifer Kent's Babadook will appeal to those horror fans who are tired of modern "screamers" in which the main effect of "fear" is based on sudden loud sounds. Yes, the film sometimes contains various rustles and creaks, but these sound elements only outline the appearance of the sinister character.
