Story Movie

During the construction of one of the London Underground lines at the end of the nineteenth century, a collapse occurred, and some of the workers, including women, were trapped under the rubble. After this incident, the construction company went bankrupt, and the unfinished line with bodies buried under the rubble was abandoned. However, some of the people survived, and their descendants have survived to this day in a rather feral state, eating... late subway visitors.

Review 4K Movie

An excellent atmospheric horror film from the UK. Director Gary Sherman has created a film that still looks very decent even after so many years.

People start disappearing at one of London's underground stations. Police Inspector Calhoun, played by Donald Pleasence, takes on the case. It turns out that many years ago, during the construction of another underground line near this station, there was a landslide and people were buried alive. No one ever found them. The construction company went bankrupt and everyone forgot about them, assuming they had died. But they managed to survive by eating each other.

And now, many years later, only one of those buried alive remains, who found a way out to the functioning metro station, which he will periodically visit to satisfy his cannibalistic hunger, killing and taking late subway passengers to his abandoned station-home.

The film is made in a leisurely, slow, and, I would say, intimate manner. The routine and unhurried investigation is interspersed with scenes showing the lives of the walled-in subway dwellers. And all this is shown in a very naturalistic and frightening way. Some shots may cause discomfort. The cameraman's camera moves very slowly and shows the cannibals' dwelling meticulously and scrupulously. Corpse worms and masses of half-rotten human remains, rats, bones, and skulls. This is the dwelling of cannibals. Fear and horror, the sight is impressive. The natural makeup is amazing. The sight of a cannibal covered in corpse spots is terrifying. No computer processing, everything is natural and pristine. I wish it were like that now. The artists and makeup artists did a great job.

In addition to Pleasence, Christopher Lee appears in the film, albeit in a cameo role and only for a couple of minutes. Pleasence, who played the police inspector, embodied the image of a very reserved and neat, in quotation marks, Englishman. Constantly drinking tea, blowing his nose into large handkerchiefs, there is a touch of humor.

In conclusion, for me, the film was an excellent horror movie from the past. Harsh, naturalistic, brutal, and scary.
