Story Movie

Sidney Prescott has spent the last few years in relative peace and quiet. Life is slowly getting back on track, far from the flashbulbs and paparazzi cameras. But when the body of one of the students is found, Sidney Prescott’s world begins to crumble once again. It’s all the fault of the resurrected masked killer, “The Ghostface Killer.”

Review 4K Movie

Wes Craven, who gave the world the "Scream" trilogy and "A Nightmare on Elm Street", once again demonstrates what he does best: the art of suspense. But old Wes, who is now 71 years old (!), leans more toward closed suspense than Alfred Hitchcock did (Psycho, Rear Window). (Let me explain: people are sitting at a table having dinner. There is a bomb under the table, hidden in a suitcase. Open suspense is when the viewer knows there is a bomb in the suitcase, but the characters do not. Closed suspense is when the viewer does not know there is a bomb in the suitcase, but the characters do.)

If we take Hitchcock and his "Psycho", we must first and foremost consider what Hitchcock himself was aiming for when he said, “I am firmly convinced that the atmosphere of fear in a film must be created exclusively through cinematic methods,” namely through suspense. For example, the reason we find "Psycho" so terrifying is that the viewer already knows there is a killer in the house, and the detective is entering the house. And the viewer sits there wondering which door the killer will burst out of. This is an example of open suspense, upon which the film *Psycho* is built. If old man Wes had swapped places with Hitchcock in terms of birthdate, then, without a doubt, the film ‘Psycho’ would have been directed by Craven.

But there is one major difference between them, aside from their shared directorial traits: a sense of humor, which Hitchcock lacked. When we watch Psycho, we’re scared; when we watch Scream, we find it funny rather than scary.

And in this film, old man Wes did a titanic job! He mocked his own Scream trilogy even more ruthlessly than Scary Movie! He mocked nearly five years of his life spent creating that very trilogy! It’s genius!

The ability to look back on the years lived with a smile, weigh all the pros and cons, and then, with a masterfully honed sense of suspense, take a fresh perspective! It’s genius!

Everything else about this film is fine.

It’s just a shame I didn’t get to hear the great theme song for the relationship between Dewey (David Arquette) and Gale (Courteney Cox), which was present in the trilogy.

Special praise goes to screenwriter Kevin William, the author of the Scream trilogy.

This man knows his stuff.

Marco Beltrami perfectly set the mood for the film at the beginning and at the end, during the credits.

Everything about this film is great; everything is polished, and that’s why it’s a pleasure to watch when you see the work of people who love what they do—and, most importantly, know their craft.
