The first part of a modern restart of Stephen King’s short story “It”, in 2017, turned out to be damn successful from a financial point of view. Naturally, the film was and for which there was something to praise, the work was really huge, and it is probably worth filming horror. The sequel was launched into production almost immediately, it is extremely doubtful that one of the creators doubted its likelihood, not to mention the fact that the story of course turned out to be incomplete, since in the original source the events take place in several time periods. Andresa Musketti did not begin to be pulled out of the director's chair, knowing full well that a person is doing an excellent job. But the first reviews of critics about the sequel were somewhat restrained, and there really were a number of reasons.

Since the events of the first film, a hell of a lot of time has passed, namely twenty-five years. The club of losers, of course, has long come out of childhood, each of them has occupied its own niche, each simply continues to live. In addition, almost all of them forgot about the clown Pennywise, whom they bravely fought with as children. Only Mike Hanlon did not forget about it. The latter had settled in Derry, and all these years had clearly been preparing for the next return of the dangerous clown. And oddly enough, the indicated moment has arrived. The club of losers will meet again, and again confront the bloodthirsty monster, which again began to terrorize Derry.

It is probably very good that only a couple of years passed between the release of the first part and the sequel, and some materials for the first film almost certainly entered the second. With this approach, the viewer has no perception of any kind of gap. All locations of the Derry town look exactly the same as what we saw in the first film. Due to this, the very atmosphere that was in the picture of 2017 is achieved. And these few aspects are uniquely at the highest level. On the other hand, the creators seemed to understand that for the second time they won’t be able to surprise the viewer, and probably they won’t be able to scare him. Perhaps that’s why they seemed to not bother with screamers, but simply inserted exactly what they would like to see in the film themselves, and in general it didn’t matter whether it would be really scary or not. In addition, probably everyone remembers that even in the first film there was a place for many episodes with humor. It was found in the sequel, but here the humor just became many times more. The protagonists who have matured are joking with and without cause, and it would seem that specifically at this moment humor is not very appropriate, the creators still manage to insert it. Although I personally don’t really want to scold the film for this, I’m sure that not everyone will like this approach.

The images of the matured protagonists of the first film turned out to be quite suitable. Not only do the actors really have a visual resemblance to their young colleagues, their characters are also very well conveyed in general. They tried to reveal literally each character as carefully as possible, paying attention to both young years and the present. And probably, partly, it is in this that there is yet another peculiar drawback of the first film, and it consists in the fact that the sequel was very long. No, don’t think about it, I really like detailed stories, but for the format of going to the cinema it’s a bit hard. In addition, there are really far from the most important scenes that could be slightly reduced, or removed altogether. But in general, the perception of the sequel is still positive. Yes, it turned out to be slightly weaker than the previous part, but I personally did not expect that the creators could even achieve it, it turned out so good.
