The Thing 4K 1982 Ultra HD 2160p
A team of scientists at the American research base in Antarctica will face an inexplicable, monstrous nightmare. Cut off from the whole world, polar explorers enter into an unequal battle with an alien creature that has awakened after a thousand-year hibernation in the ice.

Review 4K Movie

This film is not only considered the best film of John Carpenter, but critics include it in the top ten sci-fi films of the 20th century. Based on the story by John Campbell "Who's Coming?" the film tells about a monster that appeared at one of the arctic stations.

Now the life of the polar explorers is threatened by a terrible account. The monster can turn into any of them, it is enough for him to eat this person or animal to become his exact copy.

The film really turned out to be gorgeous: intense, exciting, with a great atmosphere. Good script and brilliant direction. The film itself is also a remake of Howard Hawkes, the favorite director of John Carpenter. The lead role, a polar explorer named John McReady, stars Carpenter's lead actor Kurt Russell. By the way, there is not a single woman in the film. That is, a purely male movie, where there are no pink snot and tears. It's just a very tough fantasy thriller that simply amazes with its atmosphere, and you just feel that you are at the Arctic scientific station with the heroes of the film.

Also one of the advantages of the film is the absence of a happy ending. Well, some, of course, consider the ending to be happy, but it is not.
It is imperative to highlight the music by Ennio Morricone. The principle of the musical accompaniment is simple: the so-called "plucking" of one of the strings of the bass guitar against the background of the melodic and barely audible sound of an electronic organ.

The music gives the film an amazing tension, this technique is much better than any strings against the background of a whole choir of vocalists. It can be said simply and tastefully.

Special effects are the subject of a separate conversation. Their creator, Rick Bottin, got into an insane asylum at one time due to nervous exhaustion, so he tried. And for good reason. The film is still a model for how to make animatronic special effects. The use of special dolls to create monsters looks very impressive, and the makeup did not disappoint.

True, just like Frank Darabont's film The Shawshank Redemption, released 12 years later, The Thing fell under the shadow of another blockbuster. It is surprising that both films "lost" to tearful melodramas - "Alien" and "Forrest Gump", respectively. Therefore, the film only paid off at the box office, and did not bring tens of millions of additional profits and at least an Oscar for special effects.

Anyway, despite this, the film became cult and popular. It was on the motives of "Something" that a very original and interesting computer game of the same name was released in 2002.

In general, the film can be awarded a five-point rating system and a ten-point rating system. This motion picture must be in the collection of every self-respecting moviegoer. Even just to know how a real masterpiece of science fiction should look like.
