What goes on inside the smoky carriages of traveling circuses has always interested people. At least since the time when their carts began to plow the expanses of Europe, and then the United States. Socially outcast vagrants, marginalized people of all sorts, and escaped criminals often settled in their ranks. The traveling carnivals themselves, have long been part of American culture and urban folklore. They have been described in many novels and movies, and stories about them continue to occupy people's minds in the 21st century.

Toob Hooper is a cult American director who pioneered the slasher genre, on the wave of success of Halloween and Friday the 13th, decided to keep moving in this direction and develop the success of this genre and his works. Although this film did not become as famous as his other films, it performed well at the box office and found its audience. Being in some ways a remake, it served as a model for many filmmakers in the following years.

The action of the film develops very slowly, and for the first 30 minutes we will watch teenagers spending time at an evening carnival fair. Having been warned and heard about the murders of the previous year, they nevertheless decide to try their luck and stay the night in one of the pavilions. Witnessing the crime, they try to get out of the locked room, but the assassins who see them are not going to give them a chance to escape.

In this movie made 40 years ago, we see the typical confrontation between rural and urban America. Misunderstood rednecks, and the typical middle class. This theme exactly after the 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' got a lot of development, which continues to this day, and even managed to get a bit of a rash, but at the time this theme seemed to be not yet hackneyed and interesting.

The crimes in the film are not particularly bloody and brutal, and more often than not remain behind the scenes. As I mentioned earlier, the film is a bit drawn out and lacks suspense, but it is still interesting to watch. The musical accompaniment, alas, is almost unmemorable, and of the actors, I liked the main charmer and the heroine Amy the most.

Finally, I want to say that this is a good movie for fans of horror movies, even if it looks a little naive in places, it is still able to scare. For watching it with a girl, it's great.
