A young couple travels out of town to spend a romantic weekend on the shores of Paradise Lake, away from people, in the wild woods. Steve and Jenny plan to get married, live long and die on the same day. Neither of them thought how the trip would end.

Without a doubt, Eden Lake is one of those movies that you just have to watch. Though after watching it there is an ambivalent impression - we waited for the vendetta of the tortured educator, and got a shocking ending, though, if not for the final twist the movie would have been simply erased from our minds after a while.

The trouble is that such horror is not an exaggeration, it can happen to all of us during a trip to the countryside or a simple shopping trip. Like 'Funny Games', like 'Irreversible', like 'Straw Dogs', like 'Elephant', Jenny's story shocks with the ordinariness and ordinariness of the nightmare at hand. One careless word, one misinterpreted gesture, one wrong step and you're dead. And it is not the enchanted forest monster, not the family of friendly cannibals, and not even a random maniac, but a group of kids of transition age, in which only the leader is a real freak and scumbag, and the rest are just obedient sheep, who at first follow their leader out of a desire to appear cool, and then follow his orders not without reason fearing for their own lives.

Many movies have been made on the subject of child cruelty, and we ourselves are familiar with it firsthand: everyone went to school and at least once, but were humiliated physically or morally by some scum and a group of accompanying him or her jackals. But children are always just a crooked reflection of their parents, a mold of the adult world. And it becomes really creepy when we get to know the parents of kids.

Really, if you think about it: are the protagonists Steve and Jenny so flawless? He, like most modern men, is just a coward and a weakling who not only can't protect his girlfriend, but also drags her into this nasty story. And this is another detail that the director accurately points out. A modern man, a girl, is a weak and weak-willed creature who needs constant support and protection. It is not surprising that the lion's share of trials falls on the girl. And from my own experience I can tell you - only a woman can go through such a horror and not lose her mind. But Jenny makes the mistake of going after revenge, and that's why she gets trapped.

How many times a day do we silently pass by kids swearing? We prefer to turn a blind eye to their spitting, ostentatious foul language, fights. They'll sort it out themselves, my house is on the edge, they are not my children.... Only not one pretext will not save us when this misfortune knocks in our house, when such children will grow up to be maniacs and recidivists. Simply evil - it does not hide behind a bush, does not wait for us in a dark tunnel. Evil is not around us, it's in us. And if we want to win, we need to start fighting our own demons - callousness, indifference and cowardice.
