Story Movie

"Fargo" (1996) in 4K, directed by the Coen brothers, is a darkly comedic crime thriller set in the wintry landscapes of Minnesota. The film follows the bumbling car salesman Jerry Lundegaard (William H. Macy) as he concocts a harebrained scheme to have his wife kidnapped and secure a ransom from his wealthy father-in-law. However, the plan unravels spectacularly, leading to a trail of murder and chaos, and the involvement of pregnant police chief Marge Gunderson (Frances McDormand). With its unique blend of wit, violence, and eccentric characters, "Fargo" stands as a cinematic gem, with unforgettable performances and a starkly humorous take on crime and human folly.

Review 4K Movie

Fargo is one of the Coen brothers' most famous films. The picture won an Oscar for the screenplay, a prize for directing at the Cannes Film Festival, and gained cult status among movie lovers. This is a tragic story, served with a sauce of black humor and stereotype.

The script is thoughtful and fascinating, and it is not for nothing that the brothers received an Academy Award for it. The plot, tells how a cowardly and unsuccessful manager decided to organize the kidnapping of his wife, and what it all led to. Dialogues delight with brevity and humor. The characters are rather grotesque: two dull-witted but cruel gangsters; a desperate loser, up to his neck in debt; a greedy millionaire, unwilling to help his son-in-law.... But special among them is a policewoman who is 7 months pregnant! Only the Coens could think of such a thing.

Plot twists and situations abound with stereotypes, as is often the case with the brothers-directors. Even such dramatic and cruel, in fact, episodes as the destruction of corpses in the threshing machine or the wounding of one of the bandits are shown with irony and humor. I think that's what the Coens were going for. They wanted to create a kind of extra-genre movie, which does not give the opportunity to accurately and objectively determine whether it is a comedy or a drama. And we must admit that they succeeded. Even the inscription at the beginning of the movie, telling that this story is based on real events and setting up a serious mood is a fiction - in the final credits it is clearly stated that all the characters and events occurring in the picture are fictitious.

Actors please the eye good play. All in their place. No, they, of course, do not show anything brilliant, but they do not fail in a big way. Only the Oscar received by Frances McDormand for the lead female role causes bewilderment. She played it well, but not more than that. In technical terms, the movie is traditional, no new-fashioned twists with editing or with the camera. Everything is standard and time-tested. But the composer did his best and produced a great sound. I was especially pleased with the main theme, which sounds in the movie always on time and creates the right mood.

Fargo is a great movie that gives the viewer the opportunity to determine the genre in which it is shot. Black comedy, full of violence, or crime drama, overflowing with irony.
