Iris has always thought the best moment of her life was meeting her current boyfriend Josh. They arrive together at a posh mansion near the lake where his friends are vacationing. The company has fun, but in the morning Josh cites a headache and insists that Iris go to the lake without him. What happens there and the subsequent events turn the girl's world upside down.

The movie “Companion” is a comedy sci-fi thriller, where you have to laugh much more often than be scared, and the sci-fi component is “sewn with white threads”. After all, the abjection towards a robot is not as disgusting as towards a human (at least not yet).

The plot

A young couple goes on vacation to a country house with friends, where the fun quickly turns into a murder, the motives and the true beneficiary of which are to be discovered in the course of the movie. It would seem that how many such movies have already been made? But there is, as they say, a nuance. The main character's girlfriend is not quite human, though she does not suspect it. If you suddenly find it a spoiler, the true nature of the heroine is revealed at the very beginning of the movie (even in the trailer) and represents only the first plot twist that should surprise you. And there are more than enough of them in the movie - the screenwriters did a great job here.

Why watch

The movie is interesting as a statement on the topic of violence in relationships and encourages victims to take a broader look at the situation to see themselves from the outside. Of course, the rather frivolous narration, sometimes simply slipping into a situation comedy, is not conducive to a serious immersion in the problem. But the insignificance of the main character with each turn of the plot more and more disgusting, so the idea of the authors succeeded. Someone can quite literally consider the relationship “human-robot” within the framework of disclosing the issues of transhumanism - and he will be right too. In this respect, the picture is quite multifaceted and open to interpretation.

Conclusion

“Companion” - a dynamic thriller with elements of comedy, putting before the viewer acute social problems. Does not claim to be a masterpiece, but definitely worth watching.
