Milan. During a sadomasochistic game, a prostitute strangles a man in his own home. Soon after, an elderly woman is killed with a wrench on an empty bus. In each case, the killer leaves an illustration from the children's book Pierino-Porcospino at the scene of the crime. This is the eighth murder in the last 24 hours. Police Lieutenant Gaspar Lorenzo is investigating the cases. He meets a girl named Jeanne, who tells him about the strange accidental death of a prostitute named Rosa from the Wildlife's Friends club, owned by Mr. Hoffman. This was the club that the two victims of the maniac often visited. Lorenzo decides to turn to a private detective agency for help with the investigation...

Review 4K Movie

Everything in this film seems wonderful and in keeping with the spirit of the times. There is real confirmation of conspiracy theories, sudden murders with no apparent motive, maniacs and villains, honest heroes, the sexy Corinne Clery, the manly Michele Placido, and the comic book villain played by Eli Wallach. Starting out as a giallo, this film turns into a somewhat boring detective investigation and ends up almost like a dystopia. Kafkaesque allusions to a global conspiracy involving several strange personalities who have long since enslaved everyone and are simply pulling the strings seem clumsy here. Damiani was also shooting his masterpieces during those same years.

However, the first half of the film offers several wonderful genre sketches. Suddenness, sharpness, and impulsiveness prevail there. Then, alas, all the tension, dynamics, and eclecticism fade away. Melancholic conspiracy theories completely level everything out. Alas. Even the charisma of Corinne and Michele, who are in their prime, will be retouched and lost. And so, in the end, the film turns out to be ‘just another’ genre experiment of its expressive time. Nothing can be done about it.
