The year is 2022. The Earth is overpopulated; New York City alone is home to more than 40 million people. Environmental pollution has led to the greenhouse effect, resulting in the disappearance of most water resources, animals, and vegetation. The problem of overpopulation is undoubtedly one of the most pressing issues of our time. Science fiction writers propose various solutions to this problem in the future—some send people into space to colonize habitable planets, others create artificial wars to reduce the human population, while Harrison proposes Soylent Green. Everyone is satisfied, everyone is happy—there’s enough food for everyone—but this is where the moral aspect comes into play, which you can learn about by watching the film.

Richard Fleischer, the future creator of *Conan the Destroyer* and *Red Sonja*, made a solid film for its time, though not an outstanding one. Films like *Dark Star*, *The Boy and His Dog*, and *The Andromeda Strain*, made around the same time, had a greater influence on the further development of science fiction in cinema.
