Review 4K Movie

Introduction. I am a great admirer of Paul Anderson. This man, in my opinion, stands out among other directors in Hollywood for his talent or even giftedness in terms of cinema, as well as his human charisma. Being a very intelligent man, Paul has always been a staunch fan of all kinds of 'horror' and 'space' themes in cinema. Ever since he was a child, he said, he dreamed of making a strong movie, able to amaze and genuinely interest the audience. Well, the years have passed and as an adult taking the director's chair, Anderson managed to make one of the creepiest and scariest horror movies I've ever seen.

Plot. Remarkable. A very interesting plot that hooks, grabs and doesn't let go until the end. The rescue spacecraft 'Lewis and Clark' goes in search of the huge research vessel 'Through the Horizon' that disappeared 7 years ago in the depths of space. By a fluke its emergency radio signal was intercepted and the ship is found completely empty near the planet Neptune... In my opinion, one of the biggest problems of modern cinematography lies precisely in the initial idea of the film and its subsequent realization, which is far from always successful. In this film I did not see any logical gaps or inconsistencies, everything is very well thought out, realistic and impressive. A huge plus of the film.

Actors. The actors in this film are more of a supporting cast, not the most famous in Hollywood, but nevertheless - Sam Neale and Laurence Fishburne are probably the most memorable names. Although, I will note that the play of all the actors in this movie deserves the highest praise. Everything is very harmonious, natural and without tinsel. Another big plus.

The staginess. The work done by the set designers was amazing. Something of genius. Most of the sets were lined up live, without the use of intricate computer graphics. Kudos to the people who worked on this film for such a spectacle. There are very high quality and realistic special effects which are in harmony with all other components of the frame, often it happens that the creators are so carried away with 'these things' that the picture stops being 'alive' and the viewer sees only a set of details drawn on the computer, but here the situation is different, everything is very close to reality. Believe me, there's a lot to see here, even though the budget for a film of this scale is only about $70 million.

Action. There's a lot of action, chases, highlights where you actually start to feel for the characters in the picture. When watching at home, if you have good acoustics, I recommend making the sound louder so you can fully enjoy the gorgeous sound effects, which is also a very important element of this kind of movie.

Humor. Some humor is present at the proper level, no toilet jokes or sarcasm. Everything is, shall we say, mature.

Atmosphere. I decided to include this point as a separate item in my review. This is one of the few films that has just a creepy atmosphere of near danger and irreversible horror. I don't know how the director managed to achieve this effect, but the film is saturated with otherworldly energy, you can feel something dark, inhuman, darkness from another world breathing down your neck. All in all, just awesome.

The ending. It's on the level. No bills. A tight ending that leaves no blank spaces in your brain, like "But what was it all about? What happened there...? Everything is explained and told in this picture, but in the meantime, the authors will make you wonder what else is out there in the depths of space. One of the highlights of the film is the slight understatement, a mystery that is truly frightening, even after watching it.

Bottom line: This is the best space-themed horror film ever made. Paul Anderson managed to make his childhood dream come true and create an almost generous movie that, as an adult, has on board such a strong inner component that only a child's imagination can be rich with.

Endless space and endless horror are what awaits anyone watching this film.
