The 'Burbs is a criminally underappreciated gem of late 80s cinema. On the surface it's a broad suburban comedy, but underneath lies a genuinely clever satire about mob mentality, paranoia, and how quickly ordinary people turn irrational. Tom Hanks is magnetic and funny, Bruce Dern is perfectly unhinged, and Carrie Fisher provides great grounded energy as the long-suffering wife.

The film's greatest trick is keeping the audience guessing along with the characters are the Klopeks actually dangerous, or are Ray and his buddies the real menace? The finale is chaotic, unexpected, and oddly satisfying.

A cult classic that deserves far more attention than it gets.
