Jack Walsh is an experienced professional, a master of his craft. He was once a police officer, but now he is a private investigator. His specialty is operations to catch fugitive criminals. This time Jack is busy searching for Jonathan Mardukas, known by the nickname "The Duke". Mardukas, a modest and intelligent accountant, managed to steal $15 million from the mafia. Under the arrangement, Jack must catch the "Duke", handcuffed and delivered on a plane from New York to Los Angeles on a specified date. For this, Walsh will receive as much as one hundred thousand dollars.

For a sophisticated "bounty hunter" such a task is a mere trifle. But Jack did not take into account that besides him, Mardukas is actively hunted by gangsters, the FBI and a treacherous fellow competitor. Moreover, Mardukas has a panic fear of flying, and Jack has to carry the Duke across America.

Eh, the good old '80s. A time when police action movies always had room for good humor and a positive storytelling style. Nobody stressed over the philosophical questions of life, nobody killed entire families for revenge. The guys just did their job, and they did it with humor. Get there before midnight is just like that, a positive cop action movie from the 1980s.

The main character forges a photo in a government document right in front of a child, the main character steals an identity from an FBI agent, the main character gets away from the cops - all these scenes are so engraved in the memory thanks to their vividness and lightness that it takes a very long time to forget them. And all the scenes with Marvin, I'll probably remember for the rest of my life, they are so funny. And it's like the same thing, and yet, every time it's funny. It's like a joke. Which if you repeat a hundred times - still all will laugh.

The film really struck me with its lightness, dynamism and high level of staging. Great for its time action scenes will pleasantly surprise modern viewers and in no way will let them fall asleep, thanks to the above-mentioned dynamism. And Robert DeNiro adds a touch of touching, I would even say, romance to the whole action. The movie has soul and it is a pleasure to watch and even to rewatch.

Get there before midnight is a vivid example of the shooting style in American movies of the 80's. It has it all. To please a lover of the old tapes: charismatic actors, dynamic and light plot, pleasant humor and a lot of memorable episodes. Everyone who is not squeamish about the cinema of the 80's should watch it.
