Story Movie

48 Hrs. 4K 1982 Ultra HD 2160p
A police detective is pursuing two criminals who killed a policeman. But he can't get the job done without the help of a crook serving time for stealing half a million dollars. The forced partners hardly find a common language, and their goals are different: the first wants revenge on the scoundrels, and the second sleeps and sees how to get his money and a very appetizing lady in addition.

Review 4K Movie

In the early 80's, of course, nobody thought about what the names of director Walter Hill ("Red Heat", "Single Hero") and screenwriter Steven de Souza ("Commando", "Die Hard") would mean to the genre as a whole, and most likely the creators of the picture did not think that they would end up with something more than just movies. In fact, "48 Hours" became the first real hit of its time, a sort of the beginning, the basis from which went comedy action films of a similar kind about two opposing in everything partners, forced to work together.

Jack Cates (Nick Nolte) is a loner cop and just a tough guy who takes on the hardest cases and sometimes acts outside the law himself in order to catch criminals. However, the next case of catching cop killers will turn out to be much more difficult for Jack, because his partner will not be just a young cop, but a real prisoner who has information about the fugitives.

Reggie Hammond (Eddie Murphy), a funny, charming and incredibly talkative black convict who makes "more noise than a chainsaw", has his own goals in this fall-out. But somehow, even though they're not brothers, partners or friends, different in everything, they'll have to team up, for the newly minted partners have only 48 hours to find the criminals.

For Eddie Murphy, it was his debut in a big movie, a debut that succeeded by a hundred percent. Widely known since he was nineteen as a participant of "Saturday Night Live" where he himself wrote the script and played live on TV every week, Eddie by the time he appeared on the big screen had learned what the burden of fame was. The transition to the movies Eddie made in one fell swoop, and the return to the TV screen had to be postponed, because it was a picture of Walter Hill has brought him fame as a movie star and served as a kind of prelude to the worldwide hit "Beverly Hills Policeman.

In fact it is a simple enough plot without any frills, but the atmosphere and the entourage of the 80-s, the chases and the shootings, the incredible humor of those years (besides from one of the greatest Hollywood comedians Eddie) - this became a certain formula of success for the crime-comic action movie of those years, which was copied after an innumerable number of times. No one would dispute that there were after "48 Hours" much stronger pictures in the genre (I think nobody would dispute the cult status of "Lethal Weapon"), but the fact is that the success of Walter Hill's picture triggered the emergence of this kind of cinema.

That is why even now, almost 30 years after its release, "48 Hours" looks no worse than it did in the 90s (when we, being children, admired the picture, as well as the generation of the 80s), and becomes more and more valuable with each year.
