Witnesses don't live long, as the cruel rule of the underworld says. When a young woman named Michelle Yoon becomes the only eyewitness to a murder committed by a powerful villain, no one doubted that her days were numbered. But there are no rules without exceptions.

Hired by Michelle's friend, a mysterious bodyguard arrives from Beijing. At first the heroine does not believe that he will be of any use, but the first street shootout shows what this man-army is capable of. Lightning-fast as an attacking cobra, her protector can neutralize a crowd of enemies in a couple of seconds. And only one thing can prevent him from fulfilling his professional duty - sudden love for beautiful Michelle....

As a kid, one of my favorite movies was 'The Bodyguard' with Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston. I still re-watch it periodically with great pleasure. So when I eventually switched to Hong Kong cinema, I couldn't miss 'The Bodyguard from Beijing' - the theme seemed very close to me, and Jet Li in the lead role - I'll be honest - you can't miss that!

And, again convinced that everything is known in comparison, I can say - now my favorite movie is exactly 'The Bodyguard from Beijing', cheerfully pushing its American competitor to the second plan.

There is no sense to talk about the plot of the movie, as in other Chinese movies it is as simple as two times two. One would immediately predict that the villains will be defeated, the damsel in distress will be saved, and in the end there will be love and happy ending. However, there is no love at all, the lady, who is in love with her bodyguard, will be rejected without a word, which makes the happy ending very relative. By the way, I laughed heartily at the female tricks of the protagonist.

But all the fights are so good that the failed love is somehow swept aside at once. To describe all the bright episodes, probably would not be enough and a page. Therefore, I will be as brief as possible.

And I will note only the shootout in the shopping center and the final fight between Jet Li and Colin Chow. That was a lot to watch. And these scenes were literally watched with bated breath and open mouths.

Although the movie is quite old, it is not outdated, it is a real energetic fountain of action and emotions, causing even the sophisticated viewer a storm of delight.
