Story Movie

Former special agent Jonathan Hemlock is a teacher at an art college. However, the teacher's salary is not enough to satisfy his main passion - collecting paintings, so from time to time Jonathan accepts secret missions. The new mission is one of the most dangerous. He must identify and destroy a spy who is part of a mountaineering group. To do this, he will have to climb the dangerous Eiger Peak in the Bernese Alps together with everyone else.

Review 4K Movie

Based on the plot, this movie, in principle, can be called a spy thriller. And then, of course, the comparison with Bond comes up. Watching this movie, I found a lot of similarities with the movies about Agent 007. The first of these is the structure of the narrative. The introduction (the key moment that starts the narrative), the introduction (of Bond, here - of Hamlock), several side incidents, and the main one - the murder of the “boss”; the finale, where the agent sits down with the next beauty after saving the world or just completing the task.

Moreover, Hamlock's character is the same as Bond's and, as it seemed to me, Eastwood performs this role similarly to Connery - he takes a long look at every “skirt” passing by him, has a favorite drink, jokes non-stop and gets very angry about the betrayal. The names of the agencies are “C2” and “Mi6” - the similarities are obvious. The question is, was it necessary to film this? After all, we get a movie that inherits another.

In fact, the differences are there, and they are very serious. In fact, everything else is not only different, but it is head and shoulders above any Bond movie made before 1975. To start at least from the plot. Nothing global (like saving the world, for example) - none. The characters are fully revealed, the dialogs are wonderful and listening to them is a pleasure. The movie lasts a little more than two hours, and during this huge time you will not get bored for a minute.

The most important plot difference from Bond is intrigue. No, the movie is not full of plot twists and turns, they are present in moderate, but, as for the 70s - a huge amount. And it's not even about the ending, which will make everyone open their mouths in amazement. But to retell something and not spoiler - impossible.

All the actors played perfectly; and seem to know that this is a movie, but as you look at them, and believe that this is really happening. Clint Eastwood has shown a tremendous amount of preparation here. Yes, I understand that in most scenes he was replaced by a stuntman, but still a lot of dangerous stunts performed by the actor himself. Not everyone would go to such a risk associated with life. And it is clear to everyone: in order to shoot climbers normally, the director must be close to them. A few words I will also talk about George Kennedy, whom I first saw in another movie, except for “The Naked Gun”. Here his game was no less gorgeous.

Seeing the name of John Williams opposite the word “composer”, I already had a good impression of the musical accompaniment. And this despite the fact that this is one of the composer's early works, not particularly box-office and not known to anyone. Watching the movie, I was once again convinced that I don't consider John Williams one of the best composers of all time for nothing.

One cannot forget the cameraman. This movie was the third collaboration between Clint Eastwood and Frank Stanley. It seems that here he applied all the ways of shooting that existed at that time. The camera spoils us with all kinds of angles and this is probably the most exciting movie about mountain climbers I've seen - thanks to the camerawork.

If you're a fan of old spy movies - a must watch, but anyone who likes a great story with unexpected twists and turns is also recommended - and everyone else is sure to enjoy the rest as well.
