Ground control to Major Tom

Despite all the shortcomings described by critics and viewers (inarticulate antagonist, faint supporting characters), I liked the movie very much.

It's not for nothing that the characters perform Space Oddity. If you remember that it's an anthem of alienation and loneliness, everything falls into place. Lonely Eddie Brock and also lonely but still cheerful Venom.

- And how I longed to see her again.
- Who?

Exactly who? Eddie was literally stumped by the question of who he might want to see. Someone he might miss. And even the community of good hippies doesn't relieve this condition. The togetherness of their family and their love of life seems to further illuminate how far Eddie is from people with their relationships, friendships, and all things human. Many people, by the way, have complained about Hardy looking like a 'tired skuf' in the movie. So this is the best version of what his character could look like, given the circumstances and everything that happened in the previous installments.

Planet Earth is blue and there's nothing I can do

The feeling of helplessness in the face of something massive and the inevitability of what's happening, as told by David Bowie in his song, best describes the state of Eddie Brock's symbiote. Venom realizes what's happening, what's ahead of him, and has no particular illusions about it. And no jokes (they are really funny), no dancing let him forget about it.

It is this unity of the mood of the song and the movie that impressed me the most.

Well the jokes are really funny, really. And even the surprisingly appropriate reference to Tom Cruise. And even Rhys Ivans, in whom the whole movie you persistently see Roland Schitt.
