First of all, it should be said that my all-time favorite John Woo film will forever be Blackjack. Although I never really liked his American period movies. What's different is what he created in the early 90's in Hong Kong.

“Hardboiled,” ‘Once a Thief,’ ‘Bullet in the Head,’ ”Assassin.” All these movies can be combined into a kind of genre cycle and even called iconic for the era. I hope that's not too loud a word?

Unfortunately, I can only compare Cool Brewed and Once a Thief so far, and since the second one is more lyrical, less brutal, and even a bit comical, my choice falls on it.

Stories of skillful thieves are familiar to us all from childhood. In many fairy tales, practically in any country of the world, there was almost always a plot about a brave and cunning thief who could steal a blanket from a sleeping person. Therefore, the idea of the movie is not new at all. But, what a gorgeous realization!

It is hard to describe in words the kaleidoscope of emotions that just pulled me in. The beauty of the frames from the very first minutes seemed incredible to me. The events begin in Paris - the city of love on the banks of the Senna - a river famous for its large number of suicides. Whoops! Love and death in one bottle. Maybe in the same bottle of perfume, which the girl generously poured over the box with the necessary thieves of the painting.

Having got the trophy, the three friends are heading to the south of the country, where a new order awaits them. It is necessary to steal a painting, which, according to legend, brings misfortune to the one who took possession of it in an unfair way.

How much meaning can be put into the word painting. I am amazed and will never cease to be amazed. And in this respect, the movie, aka movie picture, wins dramatically. How can you show anxiety, pain, fear, if the picture has no possibility of movement, and therefore no life? You can, of course, but in the movie and a drop of rain, flowing down the umbrella Cherie can say much more than that will capture on the canvas even the most brilliant artist.

Okay, to admire something admirable is, by and large, a dead end. So I won't say much. Actually, I just have a couple more words to say.

“Once a Thief” is an incredibly heartfelt and touching movie, in a word, magnificent.
