John Constantine managed not only to go to hell, but also to come back. Having been born with a talent undesirable to himself - the ability to recognize a mixture of angels and demons that roam the earth in the guise of people - Constantine under pressure of circumstances tries to commit suicide, just to get rid of the painful visions. But unsuccessfully. Resurrected against his own will, he finds himself back in the world of the living. Now, stamped with the seal of suicide and given a temporary right to life, he patrols the border separating heaven and hell, hoping in vain to find salvation by fighting the earthly agents of evil.

This movie made an inexpressible, overwhelming, unique, indelible, powerful impression on me. I'm so scared that I won't be able to convey all the truly grandiose feelings that came over me after watching 'Constantine'.

You can give me a “no” in the “helpful review” column all you want, honest Catholic - I don't care.

I'm afraid I can't remember all the moments in the movie that I particularly remembered. It's like trying to turn yourself inside out - words can never convey what's inside.

Constantine. Keanu Reeves. This is a role specifically for him. I would say: Constantine = Keanu. The unquestionable skill of this actor blew me away. Constantine is unparalleled. - Are you down? - That depends. Unbelievable. The way he speaks, the way he acts, the way he moves... There's a prison up ahead where I've put half the prisoners myself... We see them and they see us... Brilliant.

Rachel Weisz is every bit as good. The moment where she's leaning over her dead body was so poignant that it took my breath away and I had to remember how to breathe. I wonder how Rachel herself felt while watching it?

Shia LaBeouf is a great actor, and he proves it with every role he plays. Whoever the Rat in the Dress was, it sure wasn't LaBeouf. His character complements John perfectly. Constantine's admiration for Chas, and Constantine's desire to protect Chas to the last, is riveting. Too bad the fate of apprentices is always doomed.....

Tilda Swinton and her Gabriel deserves avatsii. And very long and stormy. After John's words that she, as a half-blood, belongs in hell, how fiercely her eyes lit up. It didn't even need any additional effects. Tilda was great. Gabrielle's speech in the conclusion is really “godlike”, I immediately remembered all my many sins and was ashamed. Honestly. And what a beautiful reprisal she got! It's called pain. You like it?

Lucifer won me over at first sight with his swagger and dirty feet. Just a unique performance by an actor. I loved everything about him. The way he rolled his eyes and let his soul go to heaven. The way he quickly dealt with the no-good son. And the way he dragged Konstantin. So... vulgar and exquisite at the same time, whistling at the same time. Low bow to the actor and his character.

I saved my favorite for last. Balthazar and his red socks are handsome among all handsome men. I wanted to scream: There he is! The real demon. The Tempter.

The movie is so well thought out. Everything is so vivid and on point, so direct and natural. It seems that if you go to any bar in your town, you will meet the same gang of evil as in Midnight's bar. It's all so real in 'Constantine'....

John's tattoos on his forearms and the way he brings the demon into the light by connecting them is a beautiful moment.

Oh yes, I almost forgot. Forgive me for being rude, but I hate those people who think 'Constantine' is a movie about the evils of smoking. While the anti-tobacco commercial somewhere in the middle of the movie came out awesome, that particular banter was something even I didn't expect.

I found it strange that I never saw God... Are we really just surrounded by evil? Balthazar sipping mineral water while the son of God spews liters of alcohol. Or evil in favor of a healthy lifestyle? So are humans, generally speaking. And despite the outcome of the movie, who is still stronger - the devils of hell or the messengers of heaven? The brilliant Balthazar or the wretched salesman? Or maybe God really is just a played-out child, and we're all doomed to tilt the score of the argument in Satan's favor?

But whatever the case, this isn't about us, it's about Constantine. John Constantine. All for nothing more than blowing a second chance, sacrificing himself, showing the middle finger to Satan, and deserving a life for it all. If that's the case, then God really is forgiving. And he loves John and us, too. Bummer, Gabriel.
