Criticism of this film can be conducted in three main areas:

Considering "Red October" from the first position, we must state the very high-quality, harmonious and even talented work of its creators. The spectator is captivated by the externally strong plot of the film, and a decent level of production, and a diverse, competently built video series, and relevant special effects, and a good level of play for charismatic actors. In this respect, the film is quite successful.

Criticism of his second side has already sounded in previous reviews, so I will not repeat it. But its presence already speaks about a certain lack of Hollywood professionalism.

The main complaint of my response concerns the third, moral, moral, ideological side of the film. And here, I must admit that American filmmakers, along with the author of the book that formed the basis of "The Hunt for Red October" UHD, just tried to give out what is desired for the reality. This refers to the motive of the act of the main character - commander of the nuclear submarine Mark Ramius. If you call things by their proper names, the hero of Sean Connerney is a traitor to the Motherland, not deserving indulgence. Moreover, from a logical point of view, his action does not fit into a rational scheme of behavior, and he has nothing to say in his defense.

Judging by the plot of the movie, Captain Ramius did not have any good reason, not even a single reason to go to this act of high treason. Indeed, none of his relatives and friends were repressed (otherwise he would not have made such a brilliant military career in the Soviet fleet as an unreliable person), he never complained about the "occupation" of his native Lithuania by "Russians", he never was for something persecuted. But what did he have? What did the Soviet government give him? A brilliant career in the Soviet military fleet, universal love and the reputation of one of the best and reputable naval officers, which enabled him to lead the most powerful and secret nuclear submarine missile carrier. And this all testifies to the great respect and trust that he enjoyed among his comrades in the service, as well as with the leadership of the Soviet Union. And how does Marcus Ramius explain his action? He decided to give the Americans, the enemies of his Soviet homeland, the most advanced underwater battleship only so that the Soviets would not be the first to strike a nuclear strike against the United States. In other words, he consciously wished that only Americans could have such an opportunity, and the Russians would be essentially defenseless to America and NATO. That is, he simply wanted death to the Soviet Union. Hated him for no reason.

This raises the following question: were there any such higher officers in the Soviet, Russian fleet at all? Could such a person for so many years have enjoyed universal love, respect and boundless confidence among his comrades in arms, with his superiors and with the country's top leadership? Even if he had never spoken out negatively about the Soviet Union, the Communist Party, the Russians, but he would have held his opposition to all this inside himself, then, nevertheless, this could not have gone unnoticed all the time. At least on a spiritual, emotional level. And this would certainly have affected his appointment as commander of the Red October, because the commander of the world's most formidable underwater missile cruiser was to be flawless from all sides, without a gram of falsehood. Then what remains? Could it be that only the ordinary death of his wife affected him so sharply? In the Soviet armed forces there were many people who suffered from repression suffered by relatives and friends and themselves, but, nevertheless, continuing not for fear, but for conscience to serve, to defend their Motherland. Because, despite personal losses, they continued to believe in her.

So what was it, Mark Rumius, there was a problem? The fact that he believed that the US is better than the USSR? But how such a highly educated and erudite officer, besides being a member of the family of a member of the Soviet government, which implies considerable awareness, could seriously believe that the US, even more recently, in those years when the Soviet Union sent the first man into space, as befor he remained an apartheid state, and then dropped hundreds of thousands of tons of bombs into Vietnam - better than Soviet Russia? Or was Ramius's problem that he was an ethnic Lithuanian? In the Soviet power there were many adequate Lithuanians, Estonians, Latvians, Byelorussians, Ukrainians, Moldovans, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, Uzbeks, Tajiks, Azerbaijanis, Georgians and Armenians who sincerely and knowingly loved their Soviet homeland, wanted to live in it and did not feel oppressed or constrained. And it was from such people that the cadres for the command staff of our armed forces were selected. It was these people who protected our country along with soldiers and officers from the Russian people, making up its stronghold and pride. And to such "interesting personalities" as Mark Ramius, there was no exact place among the Navy's top command staff. From here I conclude that the hero of Sh. Connery, the commander of the Soviet nuclear submarine Mark Ramius, with his officer gang, is exclusively the product of FANTASY and the low opinion of the American authors about Soviet people (such as they want us to see), and with real Soviet sailors, submariners have nothing in common, which in real life never was and could not be. The American viewer, by virtue of his intellectual limitations, can nyat story on faith. But this is impossible with the Russian audience. And in this respect, the film "The Hunt for Red October" did not reach its goal and is simply useless work. If the technical side of the movie deserves high praise, then from the moral and ideological point of view it is absolutely empty. Without denying the visual and technical merits of the picture.
