Marvin Gable leads a successful life as a realtor in a respectable Milwaukee suburb. One day he receives a mysterious envelope from a woman named Rose, whom he once abandoned to certain death. She informs him that Marvin is wanted by his brother Knuckles, a criminal mastermind. It turns out that behind the smile and good manners of a successful real estate agent hides a dark criminal past.

“Love Hurts” is the perfect one-night stand comedy action movie to watch with your partner in an intimate setting. It plays up the themes of the painfulness of love experiences and the aesthetics of Valentine's Day in general in an action treatment quite well.

The only more or less objective problem of the movie is a rather cliched and weak plot, which seems to be trying to keep up with all of the current hype trends of comedy action movies like the cool action movie normies, post-ironic action or the abundant inspiration of Tarantino and Guy Ritchie. All of this we've seen many times before in much more solid movies like Guy Ritchie's Gentlemen or David Litsch's Faster Than a Bullet.

However, you stop paying attention to all this when the action scenes start in the movie. Sure, it's no John Wick, but the action, especially the physical fights, in this movie are simply my reverence. The movie was directed by Jonathan Eusebio, an accomplished stuntman and fight choreographer, and it feels it. It's been a long time since I've seen such well choreographed fight choreography in a budget Hollywood action movie. This is his debut project as a director and you can already tell that at least he has a talent for simple action movies.

In addition to all this, the movie may also be of interest to those who like to look for cameos or notable actors in movies. In addition to Ke Hui-Kuan, who once played the boy in Indiana Jones 2, you'll also be able to meet here the matured Hong Kong movie star Daniel Woo, the famous bad guy of the noughties movies, Cam Gigandet, and even the replenished Sam from Lord of the Rings, Sean Estin.

All in all, if you're looking for a romantic movie for one evening that can satisfy both male and female interests, “Love Hurts” may well satisfy all your needs. It's clearly not a masterpiece, but the movie will at least be able to appeal to both those who are into the current wave of stuntman nostalgic post-ironic action movies and those looking for an energetic and fun comedy with a holiday themed motif.
