Story Movie

Big money doesn't come easy. Realizing this, the two bandits, Parker and Longbaugh prepared themselves very carefully. Loaded to the brim with weapons, they set about executing their diabolical plan. The first stage of the operation, the kidnapping of the victim, went smoothly. And everything would have been in perfect order, but in the way of weapons stood a certain Joe Sarno, firmly ruined the partners all plans.

Review 4K Movie

After winning an Oscar for the screenplay for the film “Suspects,” which eventually gained cult status, screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie hoped that his future was secure. However, he couldn't find common ground with the big Hollywood studios, as he didn't want to work according to the formulaic and worn-out rules of the mainstream. Then, on the advice of Benicio Del Toro, McQuarrie came up with a vivid crime story that broke many genre taboos, and then adapted it himself for the screen thanks to funding and distribution from the independent American studio Artisan Entertainment.

At first, the story and direction are somewhat surprising: the main characters unapologetically punch a girl in the face (albeit one who swears a lot and is a bit of a nutcase), kidnap a pregnant woman, and don't really keep an eye on her while waiting for the ransom. But the director does not seek to elicit sympathy for the main characters from the viewer; from the very beginning, he rejects this empathy and focuses his attention on the story of the pregnant girl, which is associated with the greatest number of unexpected twists and tense moments.

The story itself is certainly not for everyone, as not everyone likes such harshness and overly abrupt action moments, but for connoisseurs of good cinema, and simply for fans of the genre, I am sure this film will be an excellent way to pass the time. A multitude of well-written characters and juicy dialogues give the film depth, making the viewer remember the events that take place here for a long time. The only complaint about the structure of the plot is that many episodes in the middle are somewhat drawn out. A couple of scenes seem very drawn out and sometimes disrupt the film's powerful rhythm. But fortunately, there are few such moments, and they do not particularly spoil the overall impression.

Chris found actors who were just as worthy as the well-written characters. Ryan Phillippe, a young actor who is extremely saccharine and rarely impresses me, is simply magnificent here and plays his character stunningly. Definitely one of his best roles. Benicio Del Toro is just as good. In some places, he is even better, but the differences in the quality of their performances are not significant. They make an excellent duo. Juliette Lewis is no stranger to playing a poor woman surrounded by criminals in a dark crime thriller — she is used to it and still looks great in such roles.

But the one who really surprised me and made me savor literally every frame with his presence is James Caan, the former son of Vito Corleone from The Godfather. Here he plays an extremely memorable and devilishly charismatic role as a negotiator with his own moral principles and methods of work.

However, I have saved the best for last—the action scenes. There are not as many of them as one would like, but literally EVERY ONE is staged incredibly gracefully and realistically. Everything, from the camera work to the high-quality sound of gunshots and shelters being destroyed by gunfire, is done at the highest level. The actors' movements and the staging of the scenes are beyond praise. The way the main characters move away from the bodyguards of the heroine Lewis and the subsequent car chase beautifully introduce the viewer to the local action style, and the final episode in the style of a western is simply mind-blowing, my friends. This film's R rating was far from unnecessary.

The Way of the Gun is a tense crime thriller with realistic, stylishly staged shootouts and impressive dialogue. The film is reminiscent of the works of Quentin Tarantino and the Coen brothers, but it is also an original work by a talented author. Hence my disappointment at the poor box office performance of such a stylish project; after all, the lulls in some episodes of the film were not such a big drawback.
