This story took place in those fairy-tale times when the land was full of enchanted castles, mysterious forest glades, fantastical creatures, and evil sorcerers. It is the story of a beautiful princess turned into a swan by the evil wizard Rothbart, her beloved, Prince Derek, all the wondrous creatures living on the shores of Swan Lake, and their love, friendship, and struggle against evil.

I still remember how my grandpa would buy me every new installment on cassette tapes, and I was over the moon.

Of course, every little girl wants to be a princess—and, of course, one just like Princess Odette. Beautiful, smart, kind, brave, and most importantly, with a handsome prince. Maybe that’s what drew us in as kids… but even now, when I watch it again, I still love it just as much. Looking at the cartoon now from a quality standpoint, it’s undoubtedly remarkable for 1994. It’s beautifully animated, with wonderful soundtracks, and while it certainly contains the standard moral lessons “about love and friendship, good and evil,” overall, the cartoon is simply wonderful.
