In 1963, director Stanley Donen made the adventure comedy thriller Charade, starring Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. The film was a huge box office success, so in 1966 Donen attempted to repeat the success of Charade.

This film turned out to be another adventure comedy thriller, Arabesque, starring another duo familiar to audiences, Gregory Peck and Sophia Loren. The film did not repeat the success of Charade, but the thriller was nonetheless quite good.

Incidentally, Cary Grant and Jean Simmons were originally supposed to star in this film. Simmons was the first to drop out of the project. Cary Grant had already decided to quit acting for good, which he did after the film Go, Don't Run, released in the same year as Arabesque.

The plot of the film is as follows: An Oxford professor is offered $30,000 to decipher a secret message, the contents of which will affect international relations between the Middle East and Great Britain.

The mistress of an oil magnate who is serious about changing the political situation in the East becomes involved in the affair. The situation heats up!

Only two actors stand out. We are, of course, talking about Gregory Peck and Sophia Loren. The actors fit very harmoniously into this cheerful adventure story, also making a wonderful duo together.

Overall, the result is a fun, adventurous thriller that, while not quite reaching the level of Charade, is still quite enjoyable. Fans of the genre are encouraged to watch it!
