Story Movie

Forty years after Alexander's death, the elderly Ptolemy, one of Macedon's closest companions who became governor of Egypt after his death, decides to tell and record the story of the great commander's victories. For eight years the army of Alexander the Great moved to the East, to the shores of the world Ocean. Having conquered Western and Central Asia, Macedonian was the first to set foot on the mysterious and mysterious land of ancient India. He dreamed about it in his childhood, listening to the myths of Troy, the exploits of Hercules and Achilles....

Review 4K Movie

I love this film with all my heart and soul! It's been 10 months since I first saw Alexander, but the impressions and emotions are still vivid. Oh, I don't have the words to describe all my feelings!

I never liked historical films. At school, I was “lucky” to have a history teacher who made me hate the subject. Of course, before Alexander, I hadn't seen Troy. And I refused to go to see Alexander when I was invited. But then I agreed. I thought, "Okay, I'll go. I'll sleep in the cinema.

I should note in advance that I didn't know anything about the film: neither its length nor the cast. I listened to what Ptolemy said at the beginning of the film, thinking about my own thoughts. But when I saw Angelina Jolie with snakes and a little boy, I ‘woke up’. 'Snakes are like people. We can love them, feed them, protect them. And still they betray us," Olympias said to little Alexander. After these words, I suddenly became interested, and I didn't get distracted for the rest of the film.

I was surprised that the boy who played 10-year-old Alexander looked like the actor who played the adult. I watched and thought, “Is that Colin Farrell?! Wow!” I just didn't like him before. I was shocked: I don't like the story, but the film is amazing! I didn't like Colin, but after that I was amazed by his talent! And he's handsome, what can I say! And Jared Leto just won me over. I love the scenes where Alexander and Hephaestion are together!

But many people didn't like the film just because of their relationship, which is unconventional for our time. But I have nothing against it! Especially since Alexander and Hephaestion really loved each other in history. Their relationship was not inspired by “fashion.” Their love was not perverted. They were connected spiritually, not just physically. In our time, not every guy and girl love each other like that.

So let's get back to the actors. Colin and Jared did an amazing job portraying their characters' relationship. The way they looked at each other! How sincere their tears and smiles were! It's so sweet and charming! And even sexy. Then I saw Troy. Perhaps some people don't like the film Alexander simply because they saw Troy first. But what Troy?! After Hephaestion's death, Alexander grieved more than Achilles did after Patroclus' death. And this film is not as grand and emotional. But Alexander is vivid and beautiful! Emotions overflow! Colin has amazing facial expressions: sadness, despair, anger, thoughtfulness, delight, joy...

He was able to convey all of this like no other actor could have if they had been in his place. I like Brad Pitt; Troy itself is not a bad film, but it cannot compare to Alexander in terms of feelings and emotions, dynamics, plot, and, of course, the scale and spectacle of the battle scenes.

I'm sensitive, I cried during Alexander (and still can't hold back the tears when I rewatch the film), but Troy didn't impress me somehow. Also, in my opinion, the actors in Alexander are better cast. They are also more attractive than in Troy. Colin Farrell is outstanding, Angelina Jolie is charming, Val Kilmer is impressive, Jared Leto is simply delightful, and I respect and admire Anthony Hopkins.

I lived in this film. Three hours wasn't even enough for me. In the cinema, when about an hour and a half had passed and it was clear that the end was not coming soon, I enjoyed the slow conclusion and thought to myself: ‘If only the film lasted longer, I could sit there for another hour’. It's ridiculous, but I like that the film is long. And I don't think it's drawn out at all.

You can't watch Alexander superficially, like many other films. You have to watch and listen carefully, and only then can you see and hear and, most importantly, feel and understand.

The film Alexander also helped me to look inside myself and rethink a lot of things. I became interested in the historical figure. I found materials on the Internet and in the library, and bought several books. For those who really liked the film, I recommend reading Mary Renault's novel The Persian Boy, which is narrated from the perspective of Bagoas (he also appears in the film, but in a minor role). The book cover states that this novel inspired Oliver Stone to make the film. Some moments are indeed reflected in it.

As for the chronology, the film does not claim to be an encyclopedia. The main focus here is on Alexander's character and his relationships with other people. I am interested in both real facts and novels that contain some fiction. I am interested in everything related to Alexander the Great and his era. I, who did not like history...

I would like to sincerely thank Oliver Stone for this masterpiece! And let the film critics not appreciate his creation. The main thing is that the audience appreciated the film. I am sure there are many fans, and many will support me. Whatever anyone says, for me this film will remain the best forever!
