I hope you also watched this film because Quentin T. called it the most representative ‘Reagan western’. And here, Team A really does come into play in the backdrop of cowboy escapades. But let's not be so critical, because the actors play their parts well here, and Costner is responsible for all of his roles. He was so good as a dim-witted acrobat with a six-shooter in his pocket, but everyone kept putting him in uncomfortable dramatic roles. It's hard not to recall a scene from Coen's Caesar, where the same actor auditions for a film noir-style movie, and after tormenting the character, the director simply cuts all his lines.

What helps to get even more into the idea of the film is the thought that it is one of a series of films that take place in the subconscious of an autistic boy. Or even where actors from films about autistic boys end up after the death of their cinematic incarnations. But even there, they die faster than they have time to become boring—just look at the first three deaths in the first two minutes. No one thinks about making the characters' deaths realistic, since Vietnam syndrome was not treated, but glorified. The team comes together so quickly that we don't even have time to figure out who they are. The first one was doing something in a cabin in the middle of nowhere, the second was found in the desert, the third was not served in a saloon to say that segregation and apartheid are bad, and the fourth is the infantile and cute brother of the first. When they get together for the first time, they could be mistaken for the horsemen of the apocalypse: Mel, the butcher, is famine; Paden, the former gangster, is war; Jake, the dimwit, is disease; and Emmett, the leader, is death. But we are spared such thoughts by the fact that the sheriff of the town they are fleeing from is a star of the Monty Python troupe, and he behaves as if the sketch has already begun. And the soundtrack behind them is similar to the music from ‘The Knight of the Road’. It's worth watching to get a feel for the last era of naivety.

What to expect: all the genre clichés from comedies and action movies against the backdrop of Western clichés, an almost complete absence of gaps without dialogue (most of which is meaningless automatism), a child whom everyone hates so much that they protect him (if it weren't for him, Costner's character would be riding his “new horse” more often than shooting), and an absolutely far-fetched conflict, which consists of four parts that come together into one, for the sake of which all the characters unite without ever revealing their characters (no time for small talk). But that's what Silverado is all аbout: it's a myth, and the viewer knows the whole plot in advance. In the end, the righteous brothers ride off to California to open a laundry and take orders for the elimination of evil.
