Review 4K Movie

Let us warn you right away that we have never seen the first part in our lives in the four years since its release. So when we went to the cinema today, we had no idea what kind of miracle we would see. There is nothing to compare it with, so our impressions will be based solely on the sequel, which is filmed in such a way that it is not necessary to be familiar with all the events from the original. All you need to know is that Bob Odenkirk has followed in the footsteps of Liam Neeson and become a combat veteran. Well, a pre-retiree. To be honest, we didn't set out to go to the cinema for Nobody 2, but the trailer and the presence of Timo Tjahjanto in the director's chair convinced us.

The German-born Indonesian director burst onto the scene in 2018 with two (now) cult films, The Night Comes for Us and Before the Devil Knows You're Dead. Witnesses say that in these works, the man showed himself from his best side. And now, seven years later, for better or worse, he has released only a sequel to an American action film. Well, as they say, he didn't spoil breakfast. His film turned out to be so captivating that it was impossible to be distracted by your phone; it grabbed your attention and held it smoothly. We agree, it's not the most spectacular action movie in history, but it deserves a chance.

It should be noted that this is not a mindless, teeth-grinding movie that requires you to turn off your brain and automatically consume popcorn and Coca-Cola, which are harmful to your teeth. If you take away all the fights, shootouts, and acts of brutal violence, screenwriter Derek Kolstad and his partner clearly decided to add a generous dash of the Griswold family's “Vacation” to the plot. A crisis in family relations, it's time to stir up the stagnant bile in communication, the idea of going to the legendary park. The only problem is that the main characters can't really relax because of a multitude of reasons.

I want to praise Bob Odenkirk. Yes, he trained hard to be able to swing his fists effectively, but that's not the main thing, because within the stereotypes, the aging actor had the opportunity to show subtle emotions that fought with each other inside. On the one hand, he wants to become an exemplary family man who is at home, close to his children and in bed with his wife. On the other hand, it's hard to fight against his nature, because who is he if he doesn't maim, break bones, and knock out teeth? And here, various funny episodes come into play, which defuse the tense atmosphere and don't give you time to think about the pressing issues.

The only disappointment is the ending, which, damn it, is not flawless. It follows in the footsteps of Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, where the heroes have to defend themselves against a gang of robbers. The battle takes place in an old park with a water park inside, and it seems like it's going to be the fight of the century! But when we saw the execution, our inner child was somewhat disappointed. It turned out to be some kind of Home Alone for adults because of the traps for the bad guys. And there wasn't enough of the gorgeous Sharon Stone. The woman was advertised so much, the character was so intimidating, but in reality, everything with her was shown quickly at the end, which was not enough. They should have added another ten minutes...

To the hour-and-a-half running time of the film. But in order to deliver a double blow, they juicily and appetizingly showed Connie Nielsen, who is clearly too young to play grandmothers. In addition, they gave the legendary RZA the opportunity to swing a katana, and he loves the samurai worldview. The venerable Christopher “Doc” Lloyd was even allowed to shoot a machine gun to his heart's content. John Ortiz and Colin Hanks ran around cutely alongside them. The result is a very appealing action thriller that makes full use of its R rating. Timo Tjahjanto's Nobody 2 definitely grabs your attention and also reminds you that family is important. Always.
