Story Movie

As it turns out, the Godzilla killed by the Oxygen Destroyer was not the only one of its kind. Soon another Godzilla appears, this time called Gigantis. Gigantis appears along with another monster, Anguirus. Gigantis and Angirus appear in Osaka, where they begin a battle. After a long and hard fight, Gigantis kills Anguirus and proceeds to wreck the city. Soon the humans come up with a plan to get rid of the monster ...

Review 4K Movie

The sequel to Godzilla, in addition to being made according to the typical rule of “bigger and broader than the first part,” laid the foundation for other films about awakened monsters who, after a long awakening, decided to play with the surrounding world by destroying everything and everyone: that is, Godzilla fights against one of these monsters, either alone or with the help of reinforcements. All claims about reflections on the nuclear threat predictably went down the drain.

But overall, this move was predictable from miles away: if a film about the destruction of Japan by an actor in a rubber suit makes a fortune and you plan to make 850 sequels to it, then constant reflections on the subject of atomic, hydrogen, and nuclear weapons can get pretty tiresome, so in the second film, they decided to get rid of it, bringing in the first gentleman who tried to challenge the title of King of the Monsters as compensation.
This is the spiky Angiras, resembling an ankylosaurus. So far, he hasn't made much of an impression on me (except for his roar, which is different from Godzilla's), but this is only the first film with him, so I'm sure that this character will show himself in the future (despite his supposed “death” here). For now, he and the good old nuclear lizard visit Osaka, where they battle it out with all the ensuing consequences (as well as burning, destruction, etc., according to the list). As in the first part, this destruction looks a little naive, but it is still exciting, without descending into gray clownery.

Against this backdrop, the human characters are completely overshadowed by the background, even though there is a drama about the friendship of pilots - a character I would remember - as there was a one-eyed scientist in the first part - but there is no such character here. Well, at least the competent actors run competently, competently discuss plans to kill (yet another) Godzilla and Angiras, and competently scream in horror—which is all that was really needed.

Godzilla Strikes Again didn't say anything new and didn't really stand out... At first glance. In fact, Motoyoshi Oda's film laid the foundation for the entire subsequent series - Godzilla vs. (insert monster name). Whether it was good or bad to keep the pessimistic and dramatic mood of the first film is up to each person to decide for themselves. But in any case, half a century of history has shown that people liked this approach, and therefore, despite the lack of any fresh ideas, I will let Oda's film go in peace.
