The box had been stashed away by elusive robbers—for their next heist at yet another bank. The teens would have been in big trouble if it weren’t for their bike-riding skills!

Nicole Kidman’s debut film. The first movie in which she plays one of the leading roles. It’s a pleasure to watch 15-year-old Nicole—she’s simply adorable. She’s the very picture of charm, sincerity, and spontaneity.

So, what do we have here? The plot is simple, but it has its own childlike charm. Three teenage stunt cyclists steal a suitcase full of expensive electronics from a gang of robbers, and that’s when the real fun begins. A bike chase through the city, running through a nighttime cemetery to escape ghouls in scary masks, and a reward offered for the gang of robbers—it’s just wonderful for a kids’ movie. There’s even a clumsy but charming kiss between Nicole and her stuntman friend (it’s funny enough that they’re kissing while hiding from their pursuers in a freshly dug grave). You’ll laugh out loud. The humor is borderline inappropriate, as they say.

The direction is excellent. The cinematography is top-notch, especially in the chase scenes. The dialogue is simple, but let’s not forget that this is a movie for kids. There’s no place here for pretentious lines like, “To be or not to be?” I especially want to highlight the film’s cheerful color palette. Whether the footage was edited or shot as-is, I was struck by the bright blue sky and ocean of Australia. The music is pretty good, too. So is the acting. The only downside is the dim-witted robbers who constantly get themselves into ridiculous scrapes, but then again, when you remember that this is a movie for kids, you can overlook that. The overall lighthearted atmosphere gives the film a special charm. Even when a thug threatens the kids with a knife, it doesn’t look scary—it’s more exciting. The film has a unique and wonderful spirit of thrilling adventure. And a happy ending, of course.

Verdict: a wonderful, action-packed children’s adventure film. Even 30 years later, it looks not just decent, but simply amazing. Fifteen-year-old Nicole Kidman is charming. Even back then, long before her Oscar, she was the best actress in the film.
