Review 4K Movie

Before we begin, it is worth warning viewers about one characteristic feature of this film: at the very beginning, the frames change at breakneck speed, so if there are people in the audience who suffer from epilepsy, I strongly advise them to refrain from watching, thank you.

In the 1980s, films about police partners enjoyed unprecedented popularity, and viewers, voting with their wallets, demanded more and more films on similar themes. And we must give credit to the people who worked on such films. The entire film crew, as a rule, approached their work with the utmost seriousness and did everything in their power to ensure that viewers would remember these films for a long time. And the audience did remember. “Midnight Run,” “Lethal Weapon,” “Beverly Hills Cop” — all these films became household names. At that time, Bruno Corbucci, a fairly good screenwriter, decided that he could make a film that was just as good, if not better, because he had an undeniable trump card—the duo of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill. But was that enough for the film to be a success? Alas, no. Well, this is Miami Supercops.

Eight years ago, a certain Joe Garrett robbed a bank in Detroit of twenty million dollars. He didn't act alone, but he was the only one who got caught. His accomplices disappeared with the money, while Joe served his time and, upon his release, went to Miami, presumably in search of his “buddies.” Did he find them? Oh yes, he did. A couple of days later, Joe was found with a knife in his back. Nice, isn't it? So FBI agent Doug Bennett decided that the investigation couldn't do without his participation, especially in light of the fact that Doug had caught the bank robber back in the day. After persuading his old partner Steve Forest to help, Doug begins to conduct an undercover investigation. And as a cover, he became... a police officer. Not suspicious at all!

Actually, this is how the film begins, and in fact, this is how it ends, since the film is not a film in the usual sense of the word. There will be no twisted or simply fascinating plot, and as for the police investigation conducted by the heroes, they will be given clues along the way and will not really do anything themselves. Well, no, they will. The characters will participate in several arrests, whether it's thugs robbing buses or gangsters shooting truck drivers, but this doesn't really affect the plot. It would seem that this is not necessary, because the duo is famous for beating up bad guys in a bright, cheerful, and fun way, but unfortunately, this will not happen in this film. The heroes do not actually participate in fights, preferring to grab weapons and demand that the bad guys lie face down on the floor. It's painful to watch Bud Spencer, as he not only doesn't fight, but even has difficulty moving, so how can he chase after the gangsters? As for Terence Hill, the actor has lost his silliness and ease somewhere along the way and behaves extremely seriously and cruelly. One could say that Terence Hill played a cruel stranger in some films, mainly westerns, but there the actor had charisma and feelings, and here there is only cruelty for cruelty's sake, but no character.

This film also lacks the eternal companion of friends and partners—humor. No, it was there. In exactly one scene, when Bud Spencer's character wants to express his condolences to the “widow” of his immediate superior, but a little later it turns out that the woman is not a widow at all, and Terence Hill's character has once again tricked his old friend. This is where you can feel the atmosphere of the old films with Spencer and Hill, but alas, only here, as there will be no more comical scenes in the film, which is sad.

As for the action, as I said, it is extremely fast-paced when it comes to hand-to-hand combat, but even this fast pace has been ruined by the editor, as the fight scenes have been edited together haphazardly and it is not always clear what is happening in the frame. This is especially noticeable in the car chase scene, where most of the time the viewer will see the car cabin with the main characters, and not the chase itself.

The result? A rather sluggish police action movie, dominated by pianos in the bushes, where some of the plot lines are superfluous and lead nowhere. To be honest, there are only about twenty minutes of plot in the film, and the rest is just filler. The actors, both main and secondary, approached their work without enthusiasm, and therefore play at half strength, and sometimes not at all. The action scenes are not interesting at all, but rather put you into a state of lethargic sleep. Based on all of the above, I would still advise you to give Miami Vice a wide berth. And if you want to see your friends playing cops, then turn your attention to the wonderful film The Fighting Cop. I wish you luck and all the best.
