Eddie Divein (William McNamara), a young, crafty, and somewhat roguish sailor, didn’t take his duties too seriously while serving, instead making some extra money by selling items from the government surplus warehouse. And just one day before his discharge, he’s assigned one last official mission. He’s placed under the command of Navy veteran Petty Officer Rock Reilly (Tom Berenger), and together they must escort a war criminal named Tony Johnson, who faces 7 to 10 years in prison. But it turns out that Tony Johnson is actually an attractive young woman (Erika Eleniak), which by no means makes her any less dangerous or resourceful. And so the journey promises to be a lot of fun.

“The Convoy” is a good, well-made comedy. One of the main reasons for this is that the film was conceived and directed by Dennis Hopper (a brilliant actor, director, screenwriter, editor, and photographer—a true Hollywood legend), which means the plot will be fairly well-thought-out and the production will be of a high standard. And that’s exactly how it turned out: although the plot is somewhat simple, it’s by no means silly, and the film is engaging to watch. There are no complaints about the visuals either—they’re crisp, vibrant, and feature plenty of beautiful landscapes and realistic sets; the visual aspect is a treat for the eyes. Of course, it’s worth noting that the film has plenty of action; it’s very dynamic and plays out in a very easygoing and natural way.

The casting is also top-notch. Tom Berenger as the tough, seasoned veteran and William McNamara as his young partner are very convincing. They brought their characters to life well. Gary Busey also appeared in the film; he had a small role but, as usual, made a strong impression. But the brightest star of the film is Erica Eleniak. She is attractive, very charming, and truly the highlight of this film.
