Story Movie

Joe was an American hero—the man who saved the president—and now he’s a private investigator who wakes up after yet another drinking binge in his old car, with a pounding headache and family problems. A low-key job comes along at just the right time—providing security for a star at a run-down strip club. However, things spiral out of control: first his friend is killed, and then the stripper Joe is supposed to be protecting. Her boyfriend, Jimmy Dix—a former football player whose career ended because of drugs—is just as determined as Joe to get to the bottom of this case.

Review 4K Movie

It’s no secret to any movie fan that there’s no better screenwriter in the “buddy movie” genre than Shane Black, who, at the age of 21, submitted the screenplay for the now-cult classic “Lethal Weapon” to producer Joel Silver. His work was wildly popular, and when Black asked for a million dollars for the screenplay for “The Last Boy Scout” (a record-breaking fee for a screenwriter at the time), the producers didn’t hesitate to pay it. And they didn’t regret it.

The film’s central plot isn’t new: Joe Hallenbeck, a low-budget private detective and former Secret Service agent, is now a loser and a bitter drunk who never parts with his bottle and cheap cigarettes. His dire financial and family situation is on the verge of collapse, and no matter what Joe does, things only get worse: his daughter hates him, and his wife is sleeping with his best friend. It’s precisely this “friend” who offers him a “petty” but extremely lucrative job—to help a young stripper. Joe agrees (he doesn’t have much of a choice), thereby dooming himself to get involved in investigating the murder of this very girl, blackmail, bribery, and God knows what else. He’ll be “assisted” in the investigation by former football player Jimmy Dix. Obviously, the case won’t go without shootouts, car chases, and explosions…

Yes, the plot is pretty standard, but don’t let that put you off—after all, this is Black we’re talking about, and that guarantees brilliant lines like: “Where are you going?—To the bathroom. You can come with me; the doctors told me not to lift anything heavy,” or “—Joe, it was an accident! — “Well, of course it was an accident—I tripped and hit my wife right in the crotch with my dick.” True, the jokes are crude, and sometimes downright obscene, but they’re side-splittingly funny, and every single one hits the mark. Add to that the brilliant Bruce Willis with his “trademark” squint, the charming Damon “Major Payne” Wayans, and the solid direction of “action master” Tony Scott, and what do you get? That’s right: a wild burst of energy and good cheer.
