Detectives from the Afterlife Department investigate crimes on the other side of the grave and chase after overzealous evil spirits. A young cop, after his death at the hands of an unknown intruder, who has fallen into the other world, in exchange for help in investigating his own murder agrees to spend the next hundred years in the R.I.P.D. and, having a brutal Western-era shooter as his partner, goes out to fight the unquiet evil.

Despite the low rating of the film, I am not going to speak about it neutrally or negatively. I will praise it from the point of view of the average viewer who comes to the cinema for the spectacle, not for the deep contemplation and philosophical reflection that follows. The only thing I can fault this film for is the scant explanations about the existence of the dead among the living. Many questions arise about it. In any case, I enjoyed the film, especially in terms of the visualization of the destruction. Somewhere I was even reminded of '2012' in the episode with the tectonic rift.

The actors played decently, but Jeff Bridges outdid everyone by a head. His 19th century cowboy looks inimitable. One more Oscar to give him for such a role. Ryan Reynolds tries to compete in acting with his movie partner, but he still has a lot to learn.

The cameramen also did a great job - you can feel the hand of a professional in every shot. How was the episode with the frozen scene of police raid shot? Professionals, what can you say!

The graphics are not ideal for our time. The fat guy at the beginning of the movie, running through buildings, does not look much more realistic than Mr. Hyde from 'Van Helsing' of 2004. All computer resources seem to have been directed at the final destruction of the city by local craters.

I would also like to note the film's perfect editing. As we already know, the ghost patrol doesn't look like they see each other. Ordinary people see a stunning blonde (Jeff Bridges) and a little Chinese man (Ryan Reynolds), and instead of a gun, a banana. So the shots showing both characters at the same time fit just perfectly.

I won't compare it to LHF. The humor here is its own, different with a little blackness, but only slightly. There are a lot more jokes about the blonde and the Chinese guy.

Honestly, I wasn't expecting so many neutral-negative reviews. Well, the movie isn't perfect, but I enjoyed watching it. Got pretty much what I was hoping for. The opposite has been happening lately: I didn't think I would write a neutral review for 'The Lone Ranger', but I had to.

I recommend to watch the film if you want to see a light comedy action movie (reeking of dead meat, but no blood) without claiming to be a blockbuster.
