Story Movie

Willow Afgood, a resident of a fairy-tale Lilliputian village, dreams of becoming a good wizard and taking the place of his teacher, a great magician and sorcerer. The adventure begins when Willow and her children discover a baby "daikini" - "big people" - in a basket that the river has nailed to the shore near their home.

Disliking the baby at first, Willow soon becomes attached to it with all her heart. In a vain attempt to return the child to the "big people", he finds himself involved in a struggle against the evil queen, the sorceress Bavmorda. In his wanderings, Willow meets Crazy Martigan, a former soldier and thief. Martigan and Willow continually argue with each other, but in trouble they are inseparable friends.

'Willow' is one of those rare movies that you want to watch over and over again. It is a perfect example of what a true fairy tale should be - about love, about friendship, about loyalty, about the victory of good over evil. In modern cinematography, unfortunately, the main emphasis in the creation of fairy tale films is on special effects, and plot intricacies are limited to banal predictable moves. Of course, for its time the picture was characterized by absolutely incredible special effects, but at the same time now it does not look childish, naive, primitive or outdated at all. You should be able to shoot such a movie.

Another merit of the director is that every movie image turned out to be whole, elaborated, alive and understandable to the viewer. Friends Rul and Franjin, annoying midgets, always bickering with each other, faithful Migosh, who went on a dangerous and risky journey after his best friend, greedy and vain Borgkatt, gloomy General Kael, who knows no mercy, treacherous Bavmorda, power-hungry and unyielding in her claims, Sorsha, who seeks to step out of the shadow of her mother and Kael and prove her independence, Madmartigan, a thief from the high road, a daredevil with a noble heart, and Willow, the real protagonist of the tale, kind, open, fearless.

Short Willow, who is underestimated by many because of his height, leaves his home village, his wife and children, having made a promise to take care of a little defenseless girl he found on the riverbank. On his way he meets a dubious warrior, Madmartigan, with whom he constantly quarrels and bickers. And he in turn, though he doesn't pay attention to the little girl at first, eventually joins Willow and begins to protect the girl from the evil Queen Bavmorda. At the same time Madmartigan manages to fall in love with Sorsha, a beautiful warrior, the daughter of Bavmorda, his nemesis, who unexpectedly reciprocates his feelings. On the way to success, the friends will meet both friends and enemies, but rest assured that good will triumph, for this is a fairy tale and cannot be otherwise.

Each plot line of the movie is perfectly and carefully worked out, unobtrusive mountain landscapes, enchanted castles, dangerous monsters, beautiful fairies and medieval taverns create a sense of unreality of what is happening, open the door to a wonderful fairy tale universe, in which the viewer will have to feel the taste of intoxicating adventures, learn the power of real magic, fight with terrible creatures and discover a whole new world.

We would also like to mention the excellent music by James Horner, thanks to which we don't want to leave this fairy-tale world.
