Review 4K Movie

Returning home on Christmas Eve 1956, the British writer Michael Bond spotted in one of the stores located near the railway station Paddington, sitting alone in the window of a toy bear, whose meetings have long since received their masters. Feeling pity for the charming plush creature, King briefly thinking decided to buy it as a gift to his wife, who did not expect such an unusual but charming oddity from her husband. Any other person in Bond's place would probably have forgotten about the toy the next day, but the writer's imagination spurred him again and again to turn to the bear, as if he has consciousness and is able to talk. With just enough time to jot down a couple of impromptu stories about his new friend, Bond spent only ten holiday days sketching out enough material to publish in a full-length book, and then sent his work to a publisher for the sake of interest. Without any illusions about the verdict, the writer nevertheless made a real sensation and finally found a vein that allowed him to come out of the shadows and become one of the most sought-after writers in Britain. Focusing almost on a single bear, named Paddington after the very train station where he was once found, Michael Bond for several years of passionate work has written a whole series of books that, despite the stylistic and semantic belonging to the Foggy Albion, with the ease of the wind spread around the world and thus formed a cult around the cute Peruvian guest who decided to explore the strange for himself London. The ever-expanding geography of Paddington's adventures led to the 1975 debut animated series based on King's works, after which the bear was unstoppable. Artists continued to introduce young viewers to the best-known squinty-legged character in children's books after Winnie the Pooh, and Michael Bond himself worked on further stories about Paddington, receiving unwavering approval from inspired editors. And the only thing the cheerful hero was missing was a big-screen conquest.

Paddington took an inordinately long time to reach theaters, keeping his fans waiting and only hinting at the fact that such a momentous thing would happen someday. And the further the computer technology went in its development, the easier it became to put fictional characters in the same frame with living people, which in the end and took advantage of director Paul King, as well as all his peers, growing up on the works of Michael Bond. Having reached all the necessary agreements with both the writer and producers Harvey and Bob Weinstein, King set about filming with the distinct realization that Paddington had gained too much weight in English culture and the nation simply would not forgive his mediocre treatment of such a significant character. But when a man truly loves his work and tries to make it as good as possible at the cost of his free time, it is truly pointless to doubt his professional suitability. By the hands of Paul King full-length “Paddington” turned into an incredibly entertaining, maybe a little naive, but at the same time heartwarming and touching spectacle with an abundance of English actors of the first magnitude. And though this story is not particularly intriguing, it is fascinating and reminds us that some friends in the past can not be left behind, because they will never deceive and betray. For most Britons, Paddington became such a friend out of time.

The story told to us in the movie starts in the sunny jungles of Peru, where an intrepid English traveler once arrived. Making his way through the paths, on which previously walked only animals, the explorer suddenly discovered a rather unusual species of intelligent bears, which gladly accepted him. But since the man could not stay for a long time far from the benefits of civilization, he was forced to leave Peru and at the same time left an invitation to his furry friends, who at any time could visit England and learn about it much more than from stories. And now it's time for a young bear with wide-open eyes (Ben Whishaw) to fulfill the long-standing dream of his loved ones and see human civilization firsthand. Having gone to London, our hero sincerely dreamed to meet the one who once looked to the bears for a visit, but in a huge unfamiliar world it was not easy for the guest from distant Peru. Finding himself at Paddington Station without his family, friends, companions and understanding of what he should do, the bear was about to despair, when suddenly he was spotted by the exemplary Brown family, unable to pass by someone who is in trouble. By taking the bear into their care and naming him Paddington, the Browns changed once and for all not only their routine, but also the everyday life of all their neighbors, who were somewhat confused about who they would now have to say hello to every day. But Paddington's sweet smile, kind heart and selfless deeds will melt even an icy heart. And it's not a problem that a treacherous villain (Nicole Kidman) is after his fur, because in this movie good always wins. That's the essence of Paddington Forever!

In bringing Paddington to the big screen, Paul King once again immersed himself in exploring Michael Bond's marvelous fantasies, which hid extremely simple, yet consistently workable truths that encourage children to learn eternal morality. That said, none of Paddington's printed or drawn adventures emphasized drama, mystery, and sadness. As children need to be taught lessons that are inspiring but not at all frightening. Due to a thorough understanding of such things, Paul King has structured his picture as a colorful illustration of a series of Bond tales, but it cannot be said that “Paddington” looks silly or superficial. The movie consists of a lot of comic sketches and all of them tell us that sometimes it is not easy to come to understanding, but if you forget about disagreements and selfishness at least for a while, you can discover amazing things and find a friend in someone you previously thought you hated. Paul King goes through Bond's creation with a lightheartedness, idealizing the grumpy neighbors, forgetting the grief that is the harbinger of real trouble. In any other story, a harsh criticism of this excessive cheerfulness would be appropriate, but not here, where family warmth and goodness reign.

In the end, I'd like to say that “Paddington” is a great mood lifter and spurs you to learn even more about this unsettled bear. So with confidence I wish you only the most enjoyable viewing and recommend for the sake of interest to at least partially familiarize yourself with the works of Michael Bond, which do not even think about becoming outdated.
