The professor thought the Puco cannibals were extinct. Twenty hours' flight from London is a wild, primitive world. Ethnologist Stevenson, desperate to get permission for an expedition to the Marabat jungle in New Guinea, goes there illegally. His goal is to find the Puco tribe of cannibals, which many scientists believe to be extinct. The professor disappears without a trace. His wife Susan and her brother Arthur try to find the scientist. Local authorities fear the cursed place like fire. The brave travelers will have to rely only on luck and professional jungle expert Edward Foster. Poisonous snakes and crocodiles, impassable swamps and pit traps. The exposed breasts of a renowned film star. The curves of her body, presented from such an angle, are reminiscent of Manet's provocative ‘Olympia’. This was one of the film's most striking features. It did not matter that Ursula Andress, who was no longer young, was over 35 years old. The fact of the display itself is important. It is all the more amusing that in the film, a tribe of cannibals recognizes her as a deity. What will happen to those who get overly excited and covet the beauty? That's right—cruel punishment, not without references to Freud's “castration complex.”

Unfortunately, unlike Deodato's film, which is brilliant in its underlying message, there is little complexity to be found here. Driven by intrigue, several main characters decide to embark on a desperate journey into the depths of the jungle to meet a cannibal tribe. In strict accordance with the requirements of the genre, numerous rituals await them, some involving torture, others involving harsh trials. Everything here is straightforward. When the savages eat snakes, this action means nothing more than that the savages eat snakes.

So it turns out that the only advantage of this film is the participation of two star actors, Oliver Reed and Ursula Andress, who make it almost the most famous cannibal series. It is their participation that sets the film apart from other similar films. Alas, it is unremarkable and predictable, albeit quite high-quality and pragmatic.
