Having obtained an invaluable map of the upper reaches of the Amazon by cunning and considerable dexterity, the lively archaeologist Lily Houghton sets out on an expedition to find a magical tree, the flower of which, according to legend, has incredible healing properties. Taking with her her younger brother, who is not happy with the prospect of a trip to the wild jungle, the girl hires a guide - the captain of the cruise ship named Frank. The whole company embarks on an adventure, where they are trapped not only by the deadly representatives of the Amazonian flora and fauna, but also by traps set up by members of a rival expedition.

A breathtaking adventure awaits you, an exciting, original story with absolutely unpredictable plot moves, a sea of ​​hilarious jokes, a wonderful atmosphere and a great acting, I would like to write, but alas, I cannot. A lot of films about how hero-adventurers go on a dangerous journey to find a magical artifact or a lost, mysterious place, or even all at once, have been filmed quite a few. It's hard to think of something like that. So "Jungle Cruise" cannot boast of originality, since it does not bring freshness to the exploited topic. Here you can feel the significant influence of Pirates of the Caribbean and Indiana Jones. And the legendary tree with magical healing properties, which the heroes are looking for, seems to be a hello to "Avatar" with his Eyva. Unfortunately, the creators decided to follow the well-trodden path. Eh, there is no spirit of adventurism in them.

Jaume Colette-Serra had shot pretty good films before, but now he missed. This experience has shown that it is better for a Spanish director to stay in the arena of exciting thrillers and action films. There he is more organic, and comedy-fantasy-adventure cinema is not his strong point. The plot of "Jungle Cruise" sometimes sags, the jokes often do not work properly, and the events that take place, with some exceptions, are not so exciting. Of course, almost any director wants to try his hand at different genres. Such an aspiration is commendable, but the result is not always successful. Well, try is not torture, let's move on. In general, the impression was that the picture was shot without much inspiration and light. It is significant that the musical accompaniment of the composer James Newton Howard is not even remembered.

Despite all of the above, there are positive aspects to Jungle Cruise. These include the cast as a whole, however, I would like to highlight Jesse Plemons, who played the role of a caricatured German villain. But Dwayne Johnson decided to hold on to his powerful charisma until better times. It is worth mentioning the cute four-legged friend of the protagonist - a jaguar named Proxima. This character has a beneficial effect on the film. A beautiful picture, landscapes and light, relaxed, in a word, the Disney atmosphere can also be attributed to the pluses. And if after watching someone wants to get acquainted with "Aguirre, God's Wrath" by Werner Herzog, this will be the most important achievement of "Jungle Cruise".
