A family moves from the city to the countryside—fresh air, a vegetable garden, and no gadgets. While Dad is growing tomatoes, the youngest daughter finds a huge tree in the forest. Climb to its top, and you’ll find yourself in the Enchanted Kingdom, where almost anything is possible: flying on a bus, houses made of chocolate, and potions that grant wishes. But not everyone is fond of a digital detox: the older daughter can’t live without social media and dreams of returning to the city. Her powerful grandmother rushes to her aid, ready to destroy the entire forest, and only a miracle can stop her. But in the world of elves and fairies, miracles literally grow on tree branches.

I'm a fan of the original books, but the modern setting and plotlines are so far removed that it doesn't really matter. This is essentially a new, present-day story of some children who stumble across the tree once cilmbed by Jo, Bessie and Fanny in the mid-20th century.

There are a few irritating changes - "pop cakes" instead of "pop biscuits" (presumably for American viewers) though I did appreciate that "Dame Snap" revealed that her name originally was Dame Slap.

The main problem with the film is that it's more boring than it should be. There's way too much of the parents and their boring :(and commercially implausible - a single greenhouse's yield is going to raise £20,000?!) tomato farm, and hardly any Magic Lands by comparison. The tree and magic parts just felt really rushed.

So that was the main disappointment here. There simply wasn't enough magic or fantasy. And many of Blyton's adorable touches - which would have been so easy to do in the era of CGI, such as the squirrel who takes the cushions back - just weren't included. Kids will enjoy this, but they'd probably enjoy it a lot more with less of the dreary farming stuff.
