The filmmakers behind this movie focused on the narrative’s depth of meaning and psychological complexity. Instead of the expected horror story about an expedition that encounters monsters, they offered us a reflection on humanity’s civilizational paradigm. What should a person do if they encounter a far more advanced and intelligent subspecies? And in general, what should one do if their very membership in the species Homo sapiens is called into question?

We witness a high-altitude expedition. In search of a scoop and quick money, several people take a huge risk. Their goal is to find that very snow monster with the large footprints. However, things go awry from the very beginning. Instead of adventure, we get philosophical conversations in a Tibetan monastery and a confined space. Yes… it is claustrophobia that becomes the key element of this film. Although most of the action takes place in the snow-covered highlands, the plot unfolds precisely within a confined space—where the expedition members set up camp.

Is it possible to make a movie about the Yeti without actually showing him? Apparently, yes. For most of the film, the characters share their thoughts about him. And that makes perfect sense—otherwise, we’d end up with nothing more than another version of *King Kong*.

And here the filmmakers have no qualms about leaving the mystery intact, leaving the viewer with a multitude of questions. What if our heroes have encountered something far more significant? Something that could have become the ruler of the world, but something went wrong? So we get a perfectly understandable, yet unexpected, combination—a few obsessed seekers on one side, and on the other, mysterious perfection. And right in the middle is Peter Cushing’s hero, trying to make sense of what has happened.

Instead of a snowy safari—a philosophical parable. Instead of an enemy lurking in the snow—the inner vices of the expedition members coming to light. Instead of bloody murders—a drive toward self-destruction. Instead of entertaining and exotic revelations—new questions. This kind of horror turns out to be far more interesting than the expected adventure-filled commotion. And in terms of spectacle, there are also some interesting choices. Visually, the film brings us closer to the forgotten genre of “mountain cinema.” However, the filmmakers resolutely call into question the Nietzschean ideals of the “strong man.”
