Bounty hunter Jane Flower catches the eye of space pirate Cobra, who decides to pursue such a beauty. At first, the girl rejects her persistent suitor, but after he saves her from an attack by superior Galactic forces, she falls head over heels for him. How often does it happen that the plot of a single picture (be it a movie, cartoon, series, anime, etc.) can be described in different ways? It can be told from the perspective of the main character; then it's simple: a guy hangs out in a bar after his latest adventure, meets a beautiful woman, she gets him involved in a new adventure, he goes through it from start to finish and flies off to seek other adventures. The end.
Or you can try to describe the plot not from the point of view of the main character, but from the point of view of the story itself. There is a certain artificial planet that has no star of its own and wanders alone through the vastness of space. Once upon a time, it was admired. But life on this planet has long since disappeared, and only three twin sisters remain, capable of reviving the legendary planet. From this perspective, the story is much more interesting. And as you watch, it becomes even scarier.

Unfortunately, I can't describe in detail what exactly is so scary there, because that would be spoilers. I will note that the anime itself is incredibly old, and most likely this effect was accidental. If the creators knew what they were doing, then they are apparently very smart people, or simply clairvoyant. In any case, this effect works.

The feature film about Cobra would not be as interesting if it weren't for the visual component. The Japanese undoubtedly have a rich imagination, but here they have surpassed even themselves. It's as if we are watching a space opera with elements of westerns, but decorated with surreal images. Very surreal. So much so that as a child I couldn't understand where the characters were or what was going on on the screen. Back then it was scary, but now it's mesmerizing.
There are two versions of Cobra's Space Adventures: the original Japanese one and an adapted one. The adapted version is better because it uses music by the band Yello. This music fits perfectly into the narrative and suits the surreal images. It is this combination that produces a literally mind-blowing result. So much so that Yello has become one of my favorite bands.

Even if you don't think about the notorious deeper meaning, the anime should still be enjoyable. It may be old and unusual in itself, but it's damn beautiful, with a cool plot, characters, and music. So, it can both entertain well and give food for thought. If anyone dares to watch it, be prepared for the strangeness typical of the Japanese; this is not Spirited Away. And only watch the adapted version, even though it is of poorer quality. Personally, I would put Cobra's Space Adventures on a par with Space Odyssey and Interstellar.
