Long, long ago, in times immemorial, a war broke out in the world between the Kingdom of Ice and the Realm of Fire. Under the onslaught of the black magic of Necron, the Lord of Ice, the forces of Jarel, the Lord of Fire, are retreating farther and farther south. The valiant warrior Larn and his mysterious companion, the Black Mask, rise to defend good and justice. They must rescue the beautiful Princess Tigra and free the people from the evil Necron.

Now this is the epitome of simple fantasy. Lavish set design, epic battles and fights, a silly but energetic plot, clichéd, familiar characters—and it’s all thoroughly erotic. The eroticism is simple, unpretentious—I’d even say primal. The authors’ longing for natural sexuality, for the innocent admiration of beautiful bodies.

And while there are only two women—the curvaceous, beautiful Tigra and Necron’s villainously depraved mother (though there was also some red-haired witch, to be fair)—there are plenty of men here, offering a richer selection. There’s the slender, blue-eyed blond with a waist-length braid—a good main character—and Tigra’s brother, a sort of reliable brunette—a good supporting character—and a masked hunk—a good, mysterious character—and the bluish, barefoot Necron with white hair and clearly deviant sexuality (though the story doesn’t specify exactly what’s deviant about it; still, there’s clearly something off with the guy in that regard, judging by his reaction to his mom’s suggestion, “Get married, son”). And for the most part, they’re dressed minimally, move in a sort of sexy way—in short, it’s all “oohs” and “aahs.”

To cater to this “oohs and aahs,” the characters lie naked on the bare ice—and that’s fine; in battle, they prefer to take off more of their clothes rather than defend themselves with armor—and that’s fine too. But who would dare demand realism in a standard work of simple fantasy? Look, it’s the Ice Age, yet cities stand and ships sail as if we were already in our era. Minor details, really.

Everything else, as I’ve already said, is textbook. Here are the bad ones: ice, orc-like savages, evil magic, enslaving everyone; here are the good ones: fire, civilization, honor and valor, friendship and all that. Here’s a princess; she’s been kidnapped; we have to rescue her. Here’s a sword, here’s magic, here are some pastries.

Rotoscoping, on the one hand, fits the bill here, but its perennial problem—schematic, expressionless faces—has made itself felt. Honestly, half the fun is lost.

There’s not much for an adult to get out of this—it’s all just too crude—but teenagers might like it. Especially since it’s not pornography, after all, but a more aesthetic spectacle. But on the other hand… there’s nothing unconventional, non-standard, or original here, aside from the erotic content itself.

This would probably have made for a good video game—an action game, perhaps with some RPG elements. But back in 1983, of course, no one even thought of that.
