Review 4K Movie

I didn't have any expectations for this animated series. Before this, I had watched *The Legend of Aang* and *The Legend of Korra* many times. But even after watching *Korra*, I got the impression that the series was geared toward a younger audience.

The facial animations, body movements, and the way the characters are drawn during dialogues and in static shots will definitely be a letdown. The movements themselves, at 20 FPS, look ridiculous at times. You can see the rough edges. When Aang runs his fingers along the walls of the Air Temple, they could have added a trail in the dust to show that the building is old. Or when the characters touch Momo and Appa—since they’re animals—show their fingers running through their fur and leaving a print behind. This helps convey that the world is tangible, making it more realistic, lively, and authentic.

The animation itself in the cartoon, in the static shots, looks AI-generated. This is very noticeable. At the same time, the animation in the action scenes, during combat, and in the moving shots is good. It’s clear that the combat sequences were done by hand, or with minimal use of AI.

Aang—and all the characters, for that matter—were portrayed as somewhat less experienced benders. There are situations where the use of a particular element is obvious. As you watch the movie, you’ll understand what I mean.

I didn’t have any expectations, but in my opinion, the creators should have adapted the stories that were told in the comics.

It seems like the same creators—Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko—are at the helm, but you don’t feel any of the mature themes that the original explored. The supporting characters aren’t developed at all: Katara gets mad at Aang, and five minutes later they’ve already made up, as if nothing had happened. Aang’s character doesn’t develop either.
