Brothers Lars and Ernie Schmuntz don't pay much attention to the old dilapidated mansion they inherited until they learn that their dilapidated property is worth millions. But there's one problem. In order to sell the house, the brothers must get rid of its sole and stubborn occupant, a small but very tenacious mouse. What at first seems like child's play becomes a real grand battle.

Two not very lucky men, Lars and Ernie Shmunts (both personally and in business), inherit an old thread factory and a few other odds and ends. They also inherit a house that was once purchased by their parents but now stands empty. As their streak of bad luck continues—one of the brothers is unemployed, the other is without a wife, and the factory is barely functioning—the house suddenly becomes very important as a place to live and an auction lot. The only problem is getting the only four-legged resident out of there...

Cunning Mouse, as I thought, is another reincarnation of their father, as he jealously guards his home and his own corner. For him, people are, as has been correctly noted, invaders, uninvited guests. And if anyone can find a way to counter the pathetic attempts to evict him, it's this Mouse. No mousetraps, computer cats, vacuum cleaners, guns, or specialists in the person of Christopher Walken (a small amusing appearance) will be able to cope with Mouse, and he will win the sympathy of the audience. And in the finale, he will show his nobility.

The two brothers are played by relatively unknown actors. Nathan Lane rarely appears on screen, usually preferring to lend his voice to animated characters, most often Timon. Lee Evans did not voice Pumbaa, but he worked well with his partner, having one significant appearance under his belt - in ‘The Fifth Element’. After ‘Mousehunt’, he continued to act in films, but not very actively. Apparently, there is a lot of competition for roles of timid simpletons, and studios usually choose more experienced performers... Well, I can't help but mention those nameless actors who desperately climbed up and down, ran around, occasionally allowing themselves to be replaced by a graphic model. They made Mouse very fast and resourceful.

Behind the scenes, of course, were the trainers, as well as director Gore Verbinski. At that time, no one knew that this man was capable of successfully bringing Japanese horror to the screen and creating the highest-grossing pirate saga. Now, viewers are eagerly awaiting his new projects. I am also looking forward to them, noting that Mousehunt is a good start, where Verbinski managed to skillfully distribute screen time between people and Mouse without boring the audience. I would also like to mention Alan Silvestri, who wrote his own musical theme for the rodent.
