Even without knowing what Anderson's next film will be about, you can always imagine the mood and style it will have: it will be about people, their relationships, experiences, or life—not bad, not good. About real life. And about death, of course. That's always there too.

The French Dispatch is vaguely reminiscent of The Ballad of Buster Scruggs in its structure—here, too, several different stories are woven together into a single arc. The connecting element here is the French Dispatch magazine itself and its editor, Bill Murray.

The plot

Each of the stories tells us about situations that will be included in the latest issue of the magazine: not only about the event itself, but also about the journalist who wrote about it. The stories touch on various topics: the relationship between fathers and children, love at different ages, youth rebellion, the meeting of two opposites, and life in general. Each story has a direct line, meaning, and purpose, but each will have its own presentation: in one, a journalist will take direct part in a mini-revolution; in another, a journalist will tell everything in an interview on a show; in the third, she will act as a presenter at an exhibition, telling the story of a created fresco. This adds variety to an already very diverse but very interesting plot.

Characters

I love them all! Everyone who ended up here and took part in the film — from two lines to entire storylines. From Murray to Waltz and Norton, to the wonderful Frances McDormand and Léa Seydoux. Every name, every actor is in their place, with their own goals. Even if they only have a couple of lines. It's a festival of people you truly respect and are happy to see on screen again.

Conclusion

I'm probably biased. Of course, I was biased towards this film from the start: even before going to the cinema, I was sure it would be good. And so it turned out — a distinctive picture, multifaceted characters, a multi-layered story that comes together under one arc. More precisely, under one cover of the final issue of the magazine French Herald.

And rest assured, even the appendix with the best recipes will not disappoint you.
