Story Movie

Police inspector Clouseau's unprofessionalism drove his colleague mad. He escaped from the hospital, took the chief psychiatrist hostage, blew up the UN building, and even tried to assemble an atomic bomb. And all this just to kill Clouseau...

Review 4K Movie

A workplace conflict between a former boss and his subordinate escalates into a global battle with unpredictable consequences for the planet. Crazy ex-inspector Dreyfus is determined to destroy the dim-witted inspector Clouseau by any means necessary, and is willing to do anything to achieve this goal—even if it means destroying the UN building with a laser, or even the whole of Britain. But Clouseau, though an idiot, clearly has luck on his side.

It is unlikely that another series of the Pink Panther The Pink Panther would have seen the light of day at all, at least under the direction of Blake Edwards and with the participation of Peter Sellers (the actor and director had been in constant conflict on set since the first film in 1963), if not for the unexpected commercial success of the previous film, released a year earlier. As a result, money won out, the quarrels were put aside, and the commercial success of this part (more than $30 million in box office receipts in the United States alone) took off. But it is still difficult to call the film a masterful comedy. No, Peter Sellers is traditionally good, absurd, and funny, and he pulls off the episodes perfectly. Moreover, it is precisely the striking episodes that make the film funny. Watching the interrogation of witnesses in the castle, while Sellers' character is unable to remove his knight's armor, or his attempts to enter the castle by any means necessary, is incredibly amusing and provokes laughter. Another thing is that the film is broken up into such episodes, without a coherent plot or a clear general storyline. And among the successful humor, there are often frankly flat sketches, lowering the overall level of comedy.

In general, the problem with the entire franchise is the lack of a unifying and at the same time unique gimmick. The film appeared in the 1960s by accident as a kind of subgenre of “Italian-style comedy,” with a heist-attraction and a set of corresponding jokes. But it was Peter Sellers' entertaining performance, who did not even play a leading role in the original film, that was particularly highlighted by viewers, which gave impetus to the emergence of the entire franchise with its obviously absurd name (remember, The Pink Panther is the name of a diamond from the first part). But while Sellers' character was initially unassuming and funny, but realistic, he later transformed into a complete fool. Honestly, this story should have ended in the 1960s, but money is the most ruthless and objective critic. And if something pays off, it means someone needs it.

Overall, it's entertaining and amusing. However, viewers should familiarize themselves with the first four parts of the franchise before watching this film. If you enjoyed the first films, you will definitely enjoy this one.
