If you've seen such amazing films as *Left of the Elevator* with Pierre Richard and *Oscar* with Louis de Funès, you've probably remembered the name of this renowned French director. Yes, it is none other than Édouard Molinaro, who gifted the world a treasure trove of beautiful films—there’s simply no other way to put it. No matter which film of his I watch, it rises like a phoenix, reborn and revitalized. It’s not just a moment of pleasure, not a fleeting delight—but these images, these dialogues, these scenes and vignettes that Édouard Molinaro brought to the screen remain etched in memory. And it couldn’t be any other way.

In ‘The Ravishing Idiot,’ Brigitte Bardot certainly steals the show. She and she alone. And Anthony Perkins and Grégoire Aslan merely provide the support, that is, they play their parts perfectly. And it’s true, you look at this little thing, hear a line come out of her mouth, and think, “How silly,” just as the crooks and ill-wishers who were planning to steal the secret documents thought. And throughout the entire film, we see a girl who is easily offended; she immediately starts pouting. But the way she laughs! And what a wonderful grandma she has! Haven’t you seen her? She’s such a sweet little thing, yet she does push-ups lying down in a way that not every special agent could manage. Of course, they’ll want to get rid of Grandma as a key witness. But they’re no match for her. She’ll take down any spy just as well as her beautiful granddaughter!

And what a great start to the movie! The silly girl is sitting at a table, and Perkins’s hero is staring at her from under his eyebrows. He likes her. How about going over and striking up a conversation? Well, no way! He’s a shy and very timid guy, this Harry Compton. Well, never mind—an opportunity will surely present itself. No sooner said than done. All it takes is to let a little white dog into the arena—or rather, into that very café—so that it snatches our silly girl’s shoe, and that’s it. The chase after the dog is guaranteed, and along with it, Harry Compton’s chivalrous valor is displayed in all its glory. Consider the introduction a success. You just need to treat the little one to an apple fritter—you can’t skip that step, or she’ll pout and won’t consider you a gentleman. Yes, that’s Penelope, or simply Penny, the seamstress. Oh, if only everyone had a seamstress like her, the world would dissolve into love and prosperity.
