A fairy tale. A charming story that transports the viewer (or reader) into dizzying adventures in distant worlds and across different eras. A childhood without fairy tales isn’t really a childhood. And how we sometimes long to recall our childhood years and find ourselves back in a fairy-tale land. Ethan Wiley gives us that opportunity.
So, “House II: The Second Story.”
One glance at the title is enough to realize that another horror movie awaits us (once again, our translators really went all out—I don’t know where they got “The Cursed Abode” from).
In reality, however, it turns out to be an interesting fairy-tale story for the whole family. And while the first part had at least some elements of a horror film, here they’ve disappeared entirely, transforming into a fantasy comedy. A green caterpillar dog, pterodactyls, an ancient grandfather, and many other fantastical characters await us within the pages of this story. All of this is enhanced by a vibrant soundtrack and, thanks to the special effects and set designers, looks bright and colorful. And against this backdrop, the main plot unfolds—the adventures of two wild guys, brought to life by Ari Gross and Jonathan Stark. It’s worth noting that the acting here is top-notch, and no one falls short. Isn’t it like a fairy tale?

The main drawback, however, is the film’s lack of continuity. Since it’s called “House 2,” it would have been worth establishing at least some connection to the first installment (as they would later do in the “Amityville” sequels). As it stands, the title doesn’t live up to its name in any way. The ending turned out to be a bit sad, yet at the same time it holds out the promise of good things to come. It remains to be seen what the third installment has in store for us.
